If it's early 70's it could be on the changeover from remote to rod. Mine is a '71 and it's a remote type car. As GW said above, post up a piccie of the tunnel centred on the bit where the gearstick passes through and we'll be able to tell from that.

On mine, I have the option of fitting a remote, rod or magic wand! But I've gone with a rod type because I already had a very good rod change gearbox built up.
It's a remote change car, but it still has a magic wand blanking plate and I've converted it (very easily) to rod change! :dontgetit:

Anyway, I digress.....

We'll await your piccies then go from there.

That shell is designed for the later rod change type 'box. This is the gearbox type you should be looking for.

The 1100/1200 remote change can be fitted quite easily but he proper Mini remote change is much more difficult.

Also, in a way that's good news, because the rod change box was used from the early/mid seventies right until the end of the marque, so you've got better chance of finding a good second hand unit! :dontgetit:

So it would be pointless me trying to put that 850 in my mini? Is there any way I could put the gearbox off my siezed 1100 engine onto the 850? Its a rod type gearbox on my spare engine I got for $10..

so an 850 block would bolt straight up to an 1100 Rod change gearbox?

Late tunnel, early subframe, early pedals, early switchgear, no reverse light cable drillings in the floor. Your car was built between 1973 and 1976 and you need to look for late mk3 parts when shopping.
