If there's a long alloy casing that leads back from the rear end of the gearbox to the gearlever under the car, it's a remote type. If there are two rods, it's a rod type.

I thought we covered this the other day though? Didn't you post a pic of the subframe, engine and box out of your car and I said it was rod type?

The subframe we had was the two bolt type... We need the four bolt type...
So is there anyway to tell what gearbox type you need with no engine or gearbox in the car? and could i make this engine gearbox fit into an early mark 3 mini and what modifications would it need?
And yea its an 850 with gold/brass plated hardware haha it looks the part just itll be realllllllll slow. but it comes with twin carbs so i could use em on a 1275 maybe?

Tis a rod box.

looks like a magic wand to me from the diagram and from what i can see of the selector mechanism.
Eratic can you get a pic of the tunnel inside the car. to be honest it sounds more like it is a magic wand gear box. but you can pretty much get anything to fit. coming out 45 deg from the firewall also says magic wand to me.
My car should be a remote box but has been adapted to fit a rod change box.

IF we are, that is not a magic wand nor a rod change box. That IS a remote shift gearbox. I can't see the details that GuessWorks saw that indicate that the gearbox uses the MG-1100 (Austin America) sandwich plate... however, the thing sitting under the red and gold engine IS a remote shift box regardless of what the current owner says.
See the images at:

You'll note that the hole for the magic wand shift lever is not visible. You'll also notice a horizontal rod going left to right just at the bottom, front edge of the picture... that's part of the remote linkage. Lastly, you'll notice there is not the pronounced curved hump in the casting to accommodate the final drive ring gear of the rod change. by the way, the yoke output shafts were typical of magic wand and remote gearboxes.
If we are now talking about a different box altogether... ignore this post.
