Hi guys!

I'm a bit shafted at the moment! Basically just been doing some body work and the door handles needed to come off.

The drivers side wouldn't come out so I left it hanging and masked it up, fine. When I put it back together the lock won't work from the outside GRRR. The key turns but the internal lock won't budge.

After about an hours fustration I saw where the problem was. The arm that comes off the door handle (key bit) has disconnected from the bit that goes into the actual lock.

Looking through the arpatures inside the door I can see the back of the handle, there is a bar that comes off it and moves with turn of the key, and then I can see a small metal rod that's coming out of the actual lock on the back of the door. The two look like they should be connected together but I cannot see how.

The only problem is I cannot possibly see how the two are supposed to connect!?

I'm going to have another look tomorrow when I refit the rest of the bits but I really need to get this sorted!

You can get replacement handles so it must attatch somehow!

Any ideas? Please help!

Thanks in advance!

(I tried searching)

There should be a small square clip over the end of the lever coming from the door handle. The rod from the door latch clips into this by simply pressing the two together. If however you wrenched them apart instead of unclipping them, the clip may have broken or simply fallen into the door body. If it's broken or lost you may have to replace the handle as I don't think they are available individually.

Ok thanks, iirc there looked to be something square on the end of the lever so will have a crack at it tomorrow.

Thanks again.

Almost impossible to explain the intricacies of a door lock mechanism...

There's a plate that slides behind the exterior door release button the hole in it is narrower at one end that stops the button from being pushed. The plate is moved by the interior door latch and a lever off the key barrel.

quicky edit as it seems I'm also thinking of an entirely different lock mechanism - the mini's is much more robust!

You really need a picture have a look in your Haynes or http://www.moss-mini...RESTORATION.pdf

Hello, newbie here! I have just taken on a half finished project for a friend who's emigrated abroad and at present am on with building the doors back up.
I too am having the same problem where I can't quite make out how the door lock connects to the door latch :withstupid:
The square clip that connects the two together I do have, but from which side is it meant to be put on from if you know what I mean? Looking inside the door from the inside the car, does the clip get pushed into place FROM the front of the door towards the back, or the back of the door towards the front??
Any help gratefully received

The clip fits from the front of the door. Actually it doesn't really matter but you do it this way so that you can fit the clip to the lever before slotting the handle into the door and then just press the rod into it when you screw the latch in place.
