Been a while since i have updated this due to work commitments but after this week my jobs all slow down so mini time is on the cards ready for castle coombe.
Managed to get a spot on TMF stand so time to get him in order.
Due to the numerous fuel pipe issues and leaks rust patches had started to appear.
result is seats are currently out, floors were sanded back and i repainted most of the interior and am currently painting the inside of the roof before i fit the rollcage padding that finally arrived.
Door bars are finally being welded up, no pics at present but will be done for coombe.
Rusty footwells.

Had a new idea the other week.
Cheeky bit of cad and a few bribes later and a few of these emerged.
The aluminium one was too soft. Mild steel was ok but decided upon the stainless.
They come out the laser cutter looking like this with very rough rear edges.

A lot of sanding later and the stainless one is ready to fit.

Mounted on wheel with switches in place. No more straining to reach the dash.

Just need to add a bypass to the dash switches and make up the flying disconnect lead.
Good times

Hi guys
Been a while since my last post.
Anyways. Night before castle coombe i go to pick up the mini from the garage to find that they've snapped 2 off my wheel studs off.
Good thing i have a set spare in the garage i thought so i replaced all of them only to notice that even though i told the garage not to use sticky weights on the wheels they had anyway and 3 of them had fallen off during the half a mile drive home. needless to say i have been back since and got it done again for free.
I have fitted the door bars and roll cage padding. Fitting the padding is alot harder than you might think.
Recently fitted a more heavy duty steering coloumn lowering bracket which has lowered the steering wheel angle alot.
On a less positive note the handling started to suffer followed by the banging sound over bumps, needless to say the one thing i didnt replace (suspension doughnuts) because they looked fine have utterly collapsed. For now i have wound the hi lo's out to stop the wheels sitting in the arches and have dug deep into the pockets and ordered new doughnuts, knuckle joints and cups along with new top subframe mounts. Might aswell do it while its all apart.
Meaning that the mini has been stuck in the garage for a while now.

Haven't posted on here in ages.
The suspension on the front is now sorted and very stiff, just need to adjust the dampers to soften it up a bit as i value my spine.
I stripped and repainted the floors and also the roof.
Got some mats to protect the floor for now but had to cut holes in them to fit around the roll cage.
Steering wheel is now back in and in the process of being wired up.
Door bars still need final coats of red paint but were installed for coombe.
Almost finished padding the roll cage.
Fitted an extra long drop bracket and adjusted the steering rack to match which gives a better driving position although due to the pedal box the steering wheel is to the left of the driver. (It's like being in a lancia stratos now)
Apart from that just minor tinkering and maintenance and saving up for a new turbo lump in the future.
If im honest i've been in the warm rebuilding rc cars ready to sell to fund my new engine.

Well as my last post was in january this year you may have well guessed that progress and evolution ground to a halt after my contract at work was not renewed due to 'budget cuts' anyway i am now self employed with contract work on the go which means i have an income stream again so i can restart the mini. Need to rewire the buttons on the steering wheel with some better relays. I have also begun collecting bits and pieces for a turbo conversion. Let the good times begin again!
