a part of me is in love with the little guage on the regulator for some reason:P

i love guages i guess! XD

I was just thinking that! may have to get one!!!

I must admit that i am in love with the gauge. It says that it should only be used for setup and removed afterwards but it's not my daily drive and until it's rolling roaded then i
may 'accidentally' leave it on.

Looking good dude!! Take it with all the extra bits and bobs on it your gonna be doing some rallying in this!! You looked into any events yet?

i will eventually rally it, been looking at local events, mainly tarmac and sprints but the first port of call will be castle coombe for some track days to test reliability and performance
as due to traffic and speed limits i have never driven the mini in competition mode. I know the brakes and suspension need setting up properly first and fettling around.
Ultimate goal is to have a crack at the wyedean rally but i know that a lot of things do not meet the scrutineering standards required.
For now i want to finish the mini off properly as i may (if the planets align properly) have the oppertunity at a possible photoshoot.
I'd like to have some nice photos of the mini before i dice with the forests.

almost forgot, the fuel pressure regulator is working wonders, smoother idle at lower rpm. better throttle response and it's actually made the car louder due to more fuel actually being burnt than discharged out of the exhaust and over the rear of the car. :xmas:

well it's running well and more efficiently now ed but it's now a lot more tame to drive and a bit less exciting. I may have to crank the fuel pressure back up a bit to give it its bark back.
Saw the minus on ebay, bad times.......

Hi everyone.

Well the mini has been in the garage for a while now due to work commitments and money flow issues.
Needless to say that i now have enough cash to replace the old shocks and have just ordered some gaz adjustables.
I really wanted the protech steel ones but budgets dictate again.
Due to a rupture in the fuel pipe through the cabin i am going to replace this with a single piece of braided hose throughout
for now until the car is setup properly.
I know it will not pass any scrutineering but i feel it is safer for road use.

On the plus side the plans for the new engine are coming along well and i almost understand everything involved (including the costs  )
But it should be a beast once finished although will take me around 14months to build...unless i win the lottery.

Hi Guys

Well being a bit of a burk i managed to get superglue in my eyes so have been laid up this past week.
In another daft move i also ordered my gaz adjustables from a non reliable supplier, needless to say order cancelled but i did pick up these on ebay for a good price.

Good times.
I have also ordered the braided hose and a new window winder mechanism but am looking at making my own polycarbonate front windows.
Will try to install the shocks tomorrow and try to spray my centre caps.

I should probably mention that i did indeed start this project as a student but have actually graduated now which means the grown up world and less time to play with the mini :P

been a while since i have updated this. Well after months of playing with the speedo and tacho i was offered some replacements at a bargain price.
I've spent the last few weeks stripping them and rebuiding them and have had them wired up to the car and running properly.
Only problem is that they are quite a bit smaller than the last gauges and do not have the indicator lights built into them.
I'm going to make a white spacer panel for the gauges to sit into to cover up the hole aswell.
Due to smiths gauges lighting up like asthmatic candles i am going to try and use either LED's or high powered bulbs so i can actually see them at night.
If the lighting solution works then i will implement it on all my gauges and maybe even experiment with different colours becaues i really want to make my own gauge faces.
anyway pics of built up gauges.

I love the gauges, are they out of an mgb? i've been considering using different gauges, could you help me out with a couple of questions? what type of speedo cable are going to use? and finally, how do you get the speedo to read correctly?

Nice project

Colin

Hi Colin

I am currently using a standard mini speedo cable and it works just fine.
I may be wrong on this but because my mini origionally came on 12 inch wheels and i am using the origional speedo drive and a mini cable then it should read out correctly on the mgb gauges as i have 4 cylinder versions.
I have heard of people calibrating gauges for different cars using different resistors intheir tacho gauges but speedo's are mechanical drive so should be fine.
As i said i could well be wrong and am no expert on this.
To test mine i used a hands free kit and followed a friend through a range of speeds to see if everything was accurate.

cheers
Tim
