I'v just gone through this whole thread. What a lovely car. I really like what you have done with the heater hoses. Also with your dash. Have you got the center console bit that goes with it or just the top bit?

why thankyou sir. I only have the top part of the dash as i quite like the open look underneath the dash. Makes it feel a bit more spacious than it should.

Looking good, did you put a new loom in ??

Thankyou. The origional loom was in such bad shape that it was used as a reference guide whilst me and my father built a new loom from scratch so everything has inline blade fuses under the dash and almost everything is on a relay now. took a long time with many hours of head scratching and colourful language but we got there in the end.

I know how you feel regarding problems and cracking wheel arches.... nightmare isnt it.... hopefully you'll get it all sorted! Ive not managed much on the minus due to being back at uni, but should have him sorted soon!!

good luck with it all!! more pictures please!

(when you get back of course :))

Ed

Uni does get in the way alot when you want to work on cars ed. This one's for you ed!! now i work at the uni i do still not have alot of time to work on the mini but i do still have access to the technology including the 3d printer. quick piece of lunchtime modelling and i've knocked out the first prototypes for the wheel centre caps. they still need spraying and will probably be fixed in with a little bit of tape or something for piece of mind but you get the idea.

just read through your post to see how you got on with your front mounted radiator but noticed you put a standard type in instead, just out of interest how come you never did the front type.

hi woodsy

There were a few reasons why i went with the standard type rad over a front mounted type. I did alot of research and because i wasnt really going to modify the engine a great deal within the first couple of years due to insurance purposes then a well maintained standard rad is more than up to the job. At the time of putting the car back together the funds were also very tight so i decided to stay standard for now.
But when i do upgrade the engine to something with alot more spice i will change to probably a front mounted metro rad or possibly and interesting multiple bike rad setup depending on what i do and whether i need an intercooler or not.

been a while since i have updated this. Well after months of playing with the speedo and tacho i was offered some replacements at a bargain price.
I've spent the last few weeks stripping them and rebuiding them and have had them wired up to the car and running properly.
Only problem is that they are quite a bit smaller than the last gauges and do not have the indicator lights built into them.
I'm going to make a white spacer panel for the gauges to sit into to cover up the hole aswell.
Due to smiths gauges lighting up like asthmatic candles i am going to try and use either LED's or high powered bulbs so i can actually see them at night.
If the lighting solution works then i will implement it on all my gauges and maybe even experiment with different colours becaues i really want to make my own gauge faces.
anyway pics of built up gauges.

white spacer panel is now complete and almost dry, Found a spare piece of clear acrylic, a bit of hacksaw action, some dremel fun and a few coats of white spray paint.
will let it harden over night and then add the holes for the indicator lights.

Also found an old chub fire extinguisher so may bring it back to life and mount in somewhere (most likely the passenger footwell)

The gauge facia looks really smart. Are you keeping it white to contrast the blue dash?

been a while. Haven't really touched the mini much apart from the new gauges but have noticed the hole in my pocket
due to a heavy right foot and no fuel pressure regulator meant about £5 in unburnt petrol up the back of the car and flames out the exhaust on shut down.
Measures had to be taken.

stage one, fuel hose off and jubilee clips replaced with pipe compression fitting.
New weber banjo bolt and fitting.
Was going to use braided hose with straight connector screwed into the compression fitting but seemed a little lose in the thread so have gone with rubber hose for now.

with rubber hose installed.
Attached File  DSCF1767.JPG   106.39K   7 downloads
Due to lack of space under the bonnet and the fact that i'd rather have 3psi of fuel running through the car than 7 - 10 in an accident the regulator is now in the boot.
Attached File  DSCF1764.JPG   93.2K   11 downloads
Fully connected up.
Attached File  DSCF1768.JPG   99.63K   23 downloads
New gauges in, just the vacuum left to plumb in and the lighting to sort out as smiths gauges are awful at night.
Going to modify to fit 501 type LED lights.
Excuse the tipex h, mot tester couldnt find the hazards.
Attached File  DSCF1765.JPG   103.46K   26 downloads
Cut up the old carpets to make some temporary floor mats until i can sort out the new footrest and drivers floor panel.

next stop rolling road and setting up the suspension properly now its settled.
