Heard this is rather heavy so debating ripping it out, anybody done this, is it worth it?

If its too loud it can always be replaced for about 20quid..

Also want to know wether this is going to make the mini 'stupidly' loud or 'just a little bit' louder.

Thanks
CT

I ripped mine out, didn't notice any difference.

Only took mine out because it looks C**p, revealed some nice paint work behind it!

Be interested to know your verdict. Huey has never had any and it's earplugs all the way on long journeys, so if you reckon it makes a useful difference I'll think about putting some in. Soundproofing, not more earplugs

tore all the bulkhead stuff out of both my minis, looks a hell of a lot better as its the cleanest paint on the car (until i wash the rest of it). didnt notice much of an increase in noise as theres loads of the stuff behind the dashboard anyway.

Depends which bit you are talking about.

The bit in the engine bay or the bit behind the dash on the inside of the car?

The bit in the engine bay is nothing more than a dirt collector and rust propigator, get rid. You wont notice a difference.

The bit behind the dash, its not a huge increase in noise, but it is an increase, and if you have a K&N induction kit its a bit louder again. Strip out the carpets and everything else and its a bit louder again, and intense with straight cut drop gears.

Even then its not what i would consider loud.

And yes it weighs as much as a fairy elephant

i meant the engine bay stuff, which does absolutely nothing except trap water.

It's also the one that always seems to fall apart all too quickly. If you wanted somthing there just to keep noise levels down, look into getting some bitumen adhiesive strips across the back, or some propper sound deadening lining that builders use.

Took the foam out of the engine bay and i think i am going to leave the sound proofing behind the dash as it is.

I can notice a difference without the foam, i can hear the Induction Kit sucking in the air  Only very slightly louder though. Also makes the engine bay look bigger and cleaner like Anthony said. :dontgetit:

Dragging this up. I tore my bulkhead foam out awhile back. No idea if it made a difference but it looked terrible, more of a fire hazard then anything else.

So, is there something good to replace it with to reduce noise more? Not sure what it is but my car seems loud. With the windows up, all I hear is the motor and its not all that good. The exhaust if what I want to hear. Not the sewing machine up front:-)

Over the years I have seen all sorts or ways of trying to reduce noise. None work very well and most not at all. The best way to get a quiet car (well quiet by mini standards) is to have standard air filter and exhaust, fit good quality tyres and drive with the windows closed.

Yep, thats what I was thinking. I have an fully Maniflow (header, De-Cat, Cat-back) system, stock airbox with K&N but Yoko A048R tires. They loud. I guess I will just go with the windows down method:-)
