I tried searching this but i had no joy so i thought I'd ask.

I got in my car yesterday, went to dip the clutch (my drive way slopes upwards so i usually leave the car in first) and i couldn't push the pedal down...tried again with more force and it went down. I was in a bit of a rush so i started the car, rolled out back out of the drive, push the clutch down hard so i could get it into first and then it was fine after that. No problem at all while driving.
Later on i went to start her up again, same problem but it seams to be worse now. You cant push the clutch down with the usual amount of force, you have to push reeeaally hard.
It seams that its only limited to when the car is stopped or moving very slowly (first and reverse). You cant use clutch control now as the clutch is so stiff to push down, but when you're on the move gear changes are fine and the clutch feels normal.

Anybody have any idea what could be causing this? Any help will be very much appreciated. :withstupid:

Hi,

I'm having exactly the same problem and it's been like this for the past week or so. It's a bit intermittent, and sometimes when it is hard to press there's also a creaking noise. I don't think it's the pedal, as like Bruce says, it seems to happen more when the car is in nuetral or 1st.
There don't seem to be any other symptoms.

Bruce: Sorry to borrow this thread! Did you find out what the problem was?

Everybody else: Any help much appreciated!

Cheers,

Nick

It's probably the big bolt that passes through both brake and clutch pedal that's gone a bit rusty! put some thing on the carpet under the pedals and give it a good squirt of wd40 (or simalar) where they pivot on the pedal box.

It could be the seal in the slave cylinder sticking. Take the rubber boot off the end and give the bore a check and wipe round, if it's damp it could be hydraulic fluid or water. I'd expect it to be water if anything - a little corrosion will seize the piston. A bit of a scrub round with an old tooth brush and a light greasing should help.

OK, silly me...

:w00t:

Should have been the first thing I checked:

put some rubber grease on the slave cylinder piston and hey presto - no stiffness!

What confused me was that fact that it only seemed to do it when in first or neutral - still not sure why.

Oh well, problem solved.

Cheers people :xxx:
