all the mounts on these builds are completely custom. this is what makes it the least invasive. the original jap mounts are very bulky compared to the ones used which are from the ford cortina. by placing each mount opposed at a 45 degree inclination the engine always remains centrally located and the soft mounts mean that vibration is completely removed. the rear mount is purposely placed at tower level to act as the previous mini stabiliser and so its impossible for the engine to rock back and forth. by placing the mount high it also clears the oil filter and de-clutters the drive shaft and shifter area making it muck easier to work on, here are more shots of the custom brackets:

Hi,

The Nissan micra 1.3 16v is coming to me on thursday. So it'll be do or die time whether or not i Want the engine/box.

What's the wiring like to run the engine? How much will i need to remove?? Will i need the whole loom?

Cheers.

p.s if there's more than one person here running the nissan engine...whats it like in the mini? Running costs/maintence/driveablity compared to the mini engine?

just the engine loom is fine, that is the loom from the engine up to the huge blue ECU pin and inclusive of the relay jack and the small bundle of green wires etc to the dash. the fusebox etc from the micra is not necessary but provides a guide to wiring it to your mini. the micra wiring diagram is widely available, just google 'nissan K11 no nats wiring diagram' and start stripping away!!

Nice! Looks like there can be pretty much left untouched of the subframe (in comparison to Vauxhall/Honda conversions).

yeah, when I was looking into the micra engine, I pinched one of the Haynes manuals from work to read in my lunch break (just returned it to the shelf, I treated it like a library!) And I noticed the bizarre inlet

(very dodgy paint picture alert!)

Cant help but think that a decent inlet could release SO much more potential on the engine!

So true!!

Long intake routes for better torque - ok. But not this way :shifty:

If I only could get one of those manifolds and a set of carbs:

well apparantly if you change the manifold and the rest of the system for a janspeed one, you should get around 100hp, thats what iv'e read on micrasport. :shifty:

I've just finished removing the same engine/wiring today. Quite a small/light engine. I'm guessing it has '''NATS'''?? I've the whole loom and keyfob, so hopefully might get away with it.

Hi Andy, I look forward to seeing how you get on with it. I know that someone on the Micra forum had a lot of trouble when he changed from a coil-pack engine to one with a dizzy. I think I will also try to use the speedo-pod, mine has the rev-counter, I've noticed a lot of models don't though.

It's the size and weight of the engine that appeals to me too, I'm hoping it can be made to fit below the Midas bonnet.

Anyone need an exhaust manifold, or more likely a water-cut flange so you can make your own or have a manifold made? This thread could be of interest, looks like they're struggling to get the numbers for a group buy.

bigchief - I do like the simplicity of the subframe design and engine mount locations compared to other subframe design - which remove most of the subframe structure and replcae with tubing.

However - in regards to the rubber mounts, what about the lateral movement of the engine? Those Cortina type engine mounts are good for absorbing compression forces with forward/back engine movements but when cornering, the mounts would be subject to a susbtantial amount of lateral forces (when the engine moves left & right) and could potentially sheer in half over a period of time. Have you considered this with the design? I assume you haven't had any problems yet - since you started the converisons a year or so ago now.
