Hey bigchief - in regards to the 4E Starlet engine you installed. Was it a 4E-FE? And did you install it with the Toyota gearbox as well, or fit another gearbox?

the 16valve toyota we installed was a carbd 4E which is really hard to find but everything besides the manifold and dizzy are the same as the 4E-FE. we adapted it to the nissan CUBE gearbox to make its install easier as the toyota box is HUGE and comes with cable shifts which come really close to the towers. in addition the cube pot joints, diff housing and mounting points are smaller. mind you it is quite possible to fit the toyota box but with alot more engineering on the frame.

So the chances of keeping the standard subframe mostly intact (ie not having to cut the sides of the subframe out) with the standard toyota box are quite small then??

Yes - I know that guy from the ausmini forums here in Australia but have always been curious to find out how much of the standar subframe HAS to be cut away to allow the 4E-FE engine (w/ standard Toyota box) to fit and do the sides of the subfrane have to fully cut away?

basically, yes. the toyota box is long and pointy when compared to the nissan. engine and box from pulley to box tip is over 31 inches across so at least one side of the subframe must be severed to achieve good placement. the lsd box is even bulkier.

Ah i see i must have the larger box then!
Not causing too much problems at the moment, we have the frame cut and the engine sat in and all appears clear of obstructions so far.
Main issue was steering rack clearance with the cv cup central in the driveshaft cutout but we think we are clear, if it stops raining will get some more done!
This is only a trial frame so i know exact minimal cuts, will be making another "finished product"
should be in the car in a couple of weeks ish >_<
I want to use bike carbs so have to figure out the ignition side of things?

Cool, any photos, measurements?
Probably easiest to use a Megajolt for ignition if you're not using the ECU from the micra.

How have you got on ?
Is the ns cv a problem .
Any pics ?

Hello Big Cheif,

I'm really interested in your Nissan conversions, and have been desperately trying to "visit your website" by clicking the link at the bottom of your posts... But it doesn't seem to work.

Could you post a link in this thread?
