Most of the movement was necessary due to the lowering of the front end, and my obsession with suspension travel. I just wasn't happy with the setup out of the box.
I didn't want to compromise on the rear ride height in order to get the car running level (i.e. parallel to the ground), so rather than winding the rear up, I lowered the front instead. I can now run the car slightly nose down if required, but like I said it really just increases my options.
I got my kit in October last year I think, so there may have been some changes since then, but realistically I dont think my setup would be offered off the shelf due to the changes needed to the front subframe to allow a decent travel. Most people wouldn't be willing to re-model their subframes.
I just thought "Why have some decent coil-overs, and only use 50% of their travel potential, and be forced to run them hard, or put up with knocks and bangs?"
I may end up binning the lot yet!.... but not before I've got the present one done, and tried out. I can always move on once I've got a benchmark.

Only problem now is that the oil pressure sender unit decided to let go of the engine whilst at full revs in 4th  . Only realised the problem when lots of smoke started pouring out the back. Got out to find the engine had emptied all it's oil over the road. Hopefully no damage done but got to get some more oil and fix the sender unit in properly before I know for definite.

Haven't got a clue what speed it was cause speedo's not set up yet. Was damn quick though. Narrow country roads always makes it feel quicker.Full revs in 4th.....that would be about 100mph???
Good news is it appears no damage done. Only lost about 2lt of oil so still had some in it  . Fixed my sender unit and will be testing again this weekend. Hopefully with the speedo working.
One question though. What clutch springs are everyone else using. Seemed to slip when I changed up the gears using the clutch. I've got standard clutch assembly with an additional return spring fitted between the clutch arm and slave cylinder. Do I need to add any others or just stop using the clutch for upshifting.

Mine is fine with the standard setup using a normal mini return spring, definately no slipping..
Maybe u need a new clutch!!

Have you got any free play in your clutch rod?? If not, then the clutch will not be returning properly and will slip. You need about 2mm free play between the end of the clutch rod and the slave piston. Worth a quick check before you pull it apart!

I'd still like to know what you are gonna do with the back? maybe a one-off cover?

The back cover is the winter project. It will have a 2 piece cover. Rear section hinged, opening up electrically. Inset into the cover will be the R1 logo in perspex so you can just get a glimpse of the engine. Bit more checkerplate to finish the top edges and maybe some to form inner wheel arches.Dunno what to say Pete, it's a work of art mate! I love it!
