I suppose fibreglassing is easier than welding!!!!!!! :dontgetit: :dontgetit: :dontgetit:

Did chris cut the shell for you? Also what is your floor made of ? Not really seen one in the flesh.

Are you happy with it now?

Yeah Chris cut the shell because they had to build the kit to the car as it's smaller.

The original floor is thick fibreglass but we weren't sure if it'd be strong enough so Chris cut and shaped some chequer plate just to be sure  Looks very nice too!!

Bloody hell, even the floor is fibreglass!!!!!! :dontgetit:
I thought the body was moulded to a steel floor at least, because that's what your arse is bolted to :fear: :fear:
Why is it so heavy then?

Mark :wales:

Just for the record what did a standard mini weigh roughly???

I think a standard mini weighs between 650-700?? I just confirm this on IME.

EDIT:

Here we go Between 630ish to just over 700, depending on model.

It has a steel roll over frame that everything was fibreglassed to. It's "so heavy" because to get good strength they layer it up thicker. In fairness when we chopped out the box section and before the kit went into the bodyshell the floor didn't sag anything like as much as a normal mini so it must work.

GRP is a wonderful material, ask any ex-TVR designer and I'm sure they'll agree too.

Not at all surprised to hear it was actually stiffer than the steel shell. Often, steel is only used in the lay-up where it is necessary to bolt other structures to the moulding.

Hope I'm not teaching you how to suck eggs Ade, but if your doing any fresh lay-ups make sure you rough the surrounding areas up well to ensure a good key.

 smiles to you too

DD Yeah I know about the fibreglassing. All the other fibreglassing has been fine. Typically that day I borrowed the stuff from my neighbour who had different resins hardeners and stuff than I'm used to and the mixture% sheet was stuck to one of the pots :nugget:

So we guessed it and I suspect got it a little wrong :dontgetit: I've since got more stuff that I'm used to so hopefully won't have the same problem again
