Ade, sound testing is usually done 0.5m from exhaust at 3/4 max revs for bec's. Mine is 102-103dB at 7500rpm (I lied about the max revs!)

Had a chat with some friendly peeps at Silverstone today. Will hopefully weather permitting be popping over there tomorrow to get it sound checked. :) At least I'll know for sure then. Then it's just a matter of insurance, helmet, fuel, tyres............. Oh poo this could get expensive!! :-

All of the trackdays I'v been to, they've either not bothered to test, or trust you that you're holding it at the required revs, which obviously you don't.
This includes Lydenn hill (SEMSEC trackdays) multiple times and brands hatch -no test
Bedford autodrome - tested but they just said "rev to (i can't remember exactly)" I just revved to half what he said, as the tester is now standing with the microphone at the rear of the car. It passed with flying colours surprisingly

Lol you naughty lad Al!!! :-

I jus keep hearing about people being black flagged after failing the drive by noise tests. I'd hate to pay out for everything only to get chucked of the track!!! :)

Mini should be done by September, we could pick a track half way between us and scare the poo out of the local guys! He he!

I'll be watching this very closely, as the sooner I get on the track the better. It's why I built my car in the first place, but I am also a bit worried about the noise regs. The dB killer that I can stuff in the end of the can certainly works, but I don't know if it works enough.

It's not whether you can fool the marshals at the static noise check that matters really, like you say Ade, it's whether you get caught by a drive-by check and then black flagged.

I have to be honest, I had no idea that they did that!

...but I do have an adequate solution...

...turbo it!, that'll take a fair chunk off the db's.

Now quite the idea I had in mind Al!!!! :w00t:

But anyhoo slight disapointment tonight. The Sound guy wasn't there!! Apparently when he's not wanted guarantee'd to show up and bother people but when you want him nowhere to be seen! lol

Anyhoo after brief attempts at another chap trying to work the sound meter we decided that was all wrong (quiet carpark car no running ambient noise of around 95dB?!?!! ) so end result is next evening session I'll hopefully get a couple of laps to go past the drive by sensor as thats the one that really matters anyway apparently. :w00t:

So will let you know if that works out!

My z-cars car (in whatever format) needs to be done by the ring run and I'm not posting any pics or talking specifics untill it's at a decent build level.
The only reason I'm not telling is I don't want to jinx it. You could guess but you may be surprised. :w00t:
Hopefully by the end of nest week I can put some pics up and stop being so coy about it.

I did see that new minus shell at z's the other day amongst a miriad of other mini pornography!

Just a thought for you Al, if you are converting the minus, Wont the frame be too big for it as it was originally intended for the normal saloon shell you have just sold off and i think Ade's frame has extra large feet on the rollcage to help attatch it to the fibreglass floor.
Now awaiting a stern correction............................. :ermm:

Cheers ;D

No correction needed, you are exactly right. There is a good 3 inch difference in height. I took the frame and shell to Zs last week. They will be chopping the bottom of the rear cage off along with the front cage feet. Chopping the bottom of the bars to lower to the required height and adding on larger spreader feet. then it needs a new powder coat (in a special new colour).

Al

Well good luck with the new turn for Monty.

Have you got the tubular front subby from Chris? Makes a huge difference!!

Also you might want to think about a new master cylinder as I've never been able to get enough first pedal confidence using the standard mk1 master cylinder. Especially if your taking it to the ring!!!! ;D

Will definately be loads of fun at track days with two of them!! lol will look forward to seeing the progress!
