Well yet another good news bad news day!

Good news car went to rolling road yesterday in the blistering heat!!! Was 32degrees in the rolling road area!!!!

First power run showed power was lacking a bit and loads of lean/flat spots lower down the rev range. Apparently this could well account for the bogging down whislt trying to launch it :D which is kinda encouraging.

So when it got there it was 148.3bhp by the end it 160bhp. So a little lower than I'd hoped but given the high ambients it's not too bad.

The peak torque only improved by a couple of lb/ft but the curve looked loads better! Much better lower down than when it got there :)

Now the bad news :'(

I was really looking forward to checking out the new set-up.... pulled out onto the road started to accelerate and bang...... the chain snapped!!!!! :'(

So am now awaiting a new chain before sampling the new set-up.... fingers crossed thursday friday......

Apparently the engine/rear sprocket are out of alignment so the chain hasn't been running true. This would cause it to fail early. The problem we are yet to resolve is why they are out of alignment. Certainly weren't when the car was built so something appears to have moved :D .
I'm sure we will find out soon when Ade gets it back home and I have a free evening :) .

Ade, are the BHP figures you mention at the crank or rear wheels? You're obviously more satisfied with the service at TTS than I was- sounds like some healthy results there.

How come you have to wait for a chain? I changed the one that came with the kit for a different one- actually a 'busa chain bought from a local motorcylce dealers which I shortened to suit. The one that came with the kit was too short by 2 links on my car for some reason. I still have the unused original chain if it's any use to you?

The chains are sealed so don need lubeing. If you add oil to them they will just attract the dirt and dust and cause them to wear faster.

Ade, have u checked the gearbox casing for damage? When the chain goes on the R1 it usually cracks the casing as well, if not you are quite lucky.

How fast were you going at the time?

I was literally only doing maybe 10-15mph as i pulled out of a junction then just started to accelerate it just went. Haven't inspected anything too closely yet but Don't think it was fast enough to do any serious damage.........

Any updates Ade? Have you got to the bottom of the chain misalignment problem? What's it like with the full compliment of ponies?

As far as I'm aware, the chains do need lubing and pretty regularly. I have bought a scott oiler to do mine.

I used to work for Carnells (big bike chain before it went bust!) and ive never known any chain not to need lubing! including o ring and x ring chains! Scotoilers are great bits of kit, really do prolong the life of any chain and sprockets, well worth the money!

If you chain drove an A series it would lubricate the chain itself!! :D
