Well instead of rust I get itchy arms and hands, very tight spaces in which to work, and some places where the body just doesn't fit right!!

And Bungle, I'm talking about the Minus, not Rach, for both this and my last few posts!

Just to clarify, this won't be a live webcam (unless someone wants to show me how to do that), just webcam captures that I'll edit into a quick video and post later.

Aaaaaaaaaargh! This thread is making me very excited, just waiting for a garage that can lift a lowered Minus up for MOT, then I can get mine. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh, too excited!!!

Didn't quite make it inside an hour! In the end I spent just over two hours out on the drive. The ***** pin in the gear rod collar took a while to get out, using my allen key drift, which promptly then got stuck in the collar, and itself took a while to wiggle back out! Other than that I didn't really have any other major hold ups, I wasn't expecting any though, since I only put the engine and subframe in a few weeks back!! The masive daddy long legs that were attracted to my lights were annoying however, but my electrical contact spray soon took care of them!

are you getting a coilover kit and minispares alloy rear beam?

I want a minus and may get one in the future as a new project, but that is a fair way off lol :(

I was going to suggest that after his last post.

Jammy that video is hillarious, if only that was real speed im sure youd be in demand for "engine removal" lol

What you mean? That video hasn't been sped up in anyway! Thats realtime.

Not getting a coilover kit. I wouldn't want to put coilovers on the rear, as it would be quite hard to turret the arches, and I'd want to reinforce the arch mounts in some way.

I won't let you know what 'it' is, but I think I'm going to take the opportunity to change to the 286 cam, the 28/36 IDE Weber, and the Bill Richards head I got at Castle Combe. I also need to take care of an oil leak; when I was changing over the speedo housing mount for a mini one I used the wrong bolt in one of the holes, which I think got wound in too far, and has broken into the sump ever so slightly. Needless to say, its now become a not so small, but not major, oil leak!

Might work on the aethestics too and paint the thing (the engine), but I doubt it! :(

Heres a few more pics from last night (click for larger):

Tools out and ready to go!

The engine as is.

Posted Image
Steadies and radiator out the way

Posted Image
Alternator gone, heater hoses off, carb and inlet gone.

Posted Image
Wiring loom disconnected, exhaust manifold off, gear change rods off.

Left to do:
Take hub assemblies out.
Lift engine.
Unbolt subframe mounts and bolts
Drop subframe.

Oops, still haven't updated from the other bit of work I did last Saturday!

I didn't quite get it all out and done within an hour! The b1tch pin on the gear lever rods took a while to get out, and once I'd undone all the subframe bolts I wondered why the subframe wasn't dropping down on the drivers side. Well being a Minus, the accelerator pedal isn't held on with bolts into captive nuts, its just two bolts that go right through the shell, and the suspension tower on the subframe, and bolt to both! This is what I'd forgot to undo.

Anyway, subframe and engine and now both out, ready for a few goodies to go back in....

Well, I believe I've already said I have the IDA 28/36 downdraught weber to go on. That will attach to my Bill Richards head I got at Combe a few weeks back. I'll also be sticking in the 286 cam I have, couple with the Ultralite flywheel thats already on the engine, and possibly some gearbox goodies. I think that'll make quite a nice spec engine.

'It' hasn't arrived yet though...
