Well about a month ago i bought my 1986 mini city 998. Its got a solid exterior thats been well looked after and has been resprayed about this time last year. Its had a few bits done to it its got 12x6 black ultralites, group 2 arches, bullet mirrors, stage 1 kit etc so from the outside its all good. But when you get in, it starts to go downhill. The cheapo carpets are grotty, the steering wheel's badly worn and too small, the dials are bubbly and manky, the dial surround falls off when you go over bumps, the choke doesn't lock properly, the switches are very particular in the way they like to go on and off, the seats are covered in stains which i can't shift, the from seatbelts are mismatch, ones blue, ones black, the door cards fell apart when i took them off, the handles aren't so chrome anymore and the fur headlining that had been glued over the original fell off. There are a couple of good bits inside; theres a JVC headunit, a denon amp and 2 MB quartz speakers which sound pretty good.

So from the inside its a mess, but all the electrics work, it starts first time everytime, runs perfectly, and has solid bodywork and a new MOT and tax so i payed a grand for it.

Anyway heres a few pics:

Then the interior >_<

and what the fur headlining revealed:

The ICE is ok though (the fur around it was what fell off the roof too)

and its got the usual grotty engine bay:

Well i'v given it a good service and a good checking over and a couple of rust little rust clean ups, so now i'm onto getting it all sorted out inside!

My plans at the moment are an £800 interior revamp :dontgetit: including classic buckets, rear seat cover, a CF W&P dash, smiths gauges, white 3 dial speedo assembly, leather mountney wheel, new handles and carpets, chrome bezels for all the switches and air vents and hopefully CF door cards from smudger (depending on how things go with money) :withstupid:

That is pretty mint on the exterior - i really like the rally stripe, shame about the interior but you would of paid alot more if it was a mint on the inside as it is out, plus it gives you something to work on a personalise, good luck with the work looks like a good project >_<

Thanks, i looked at about 4 others before this one and they all needed welding and panels despite being advertised as 'Showroom condition' So I was so releaved when i went to look at this and saw how good the exterior was. At the time i completly overlooked the interior. The owner wanted £1400 for it but i managed to hagle it down to a grand.

I wasn't keen on the rally stripe at first but i really like it now, and everyones said i hould keep it too. I'll be starting off with little bits like the headlining and replacing the door rubbers before buying seats and carpets. The dashboard will be the last thing to do because it'll be my biggest expence. At the moment the dash i want with all the gauges, dials and bezels i want is working out at about £320 alone, so i'll be sorting it out steadily as money comes in.

I can't drive it yet though, i'v got to get lessons first to lol. So hopefully the interior will be sorted by the time i'm driving it.

Anyway abit of an update. Today i fitted my 3 dial clocks. I had a few problems with the fuses, because i blew a couple when i disconnected the battery Doh! :o Also i bolted the bracket, clocks and surround together before i put them back in. But i screwed the bracket straight to the clocks rather than using the clip fitting because a few have snapped off, so i wouldn't be able to screw the surround on after i'v fitted the clocks. So i fitted them as a whole which meant i had to take the steering wheel off and undo the steering colum, so it was a bit of a pain. Anyway i got them in alrite, and put some 5w bulbs in rather than the 2.2w bulbs so they were brighter. So anyway they look much much better than before:

Anyway we took the car out to test them and at first they worked fine for a couple of minutes but then the speedo dropped . So we went home and had a quick inspection and it turns out that the speedo cables snapped!

So there coming back out again next weekend to fit a new cable which is a pain in the arse!

I'll do a bigger update next week after my minispares shopping spree, that'll leave the interior semi-finished:D

Yeah i was thinking that, but theres nowhere practical to put it otherwise. My boots full of tools and spares, i'm keeping my rear seats and theres no room i the front for it. Once i'v got the interior sorted i'm going to do get some decent sounding ICE with some 6x9s and a couple of pairs of speakers in the front. Might try and mount the amp on the heel board somehow then put the speakerboard over the top. Not decided yet but time will tell. But yeah i am conserned about it.

what about mounting the amp on the underside of your shelf (basically directly where it is now but in the boot) that way you wouldn't loose any boot space

Yeah thats an idea. I wouldn't need to mess about too much re-routing the wiring then too.

Thinking about it the amp isn't that big, i could mount it on the bulkhead in the passenger footwell. It wouldn't be in the way there either i don't think.

Can anybody find the section of the Denon website that has the car audio? I want to research this Denon amp i'v got and fine out how many watts it is to see if i'll need somthing bigger.

I'v tryed searching but there doesn't seem to be any car audio on the denon website at all.
