My dad had two 1071 S race engines (bored to 1150) for his modsports frogeye. he had the cranks modified by allen cranks i think (the classic mini crank man whatever his name was!) and the end of the crank was cut off and a flange shrunk on. obviously u'll need a sump as well, but its deffinatly possible! sprites/midgets are my dad's speciality, featured in john baggots midget racing book.
