The rad and fuel tank come with the kit but it is true you will need some tools and disposables.

I don't normally write on contentious points, I have only scanned this topic. but to the new people on it regardless of age thinking of buying Zcars, then welcome.

From my point of view, don't let anyone hold you back, if its what you really want then do it and have the time/ £money or intend to save while you live at home etc to raise funds, why should we stifle your creativity, imagination etc just because we are older. Granted some valid points have been made, its a stupidly powerful car for an inexperienced driver, but that's your choice. The risk would be that much greater of you doing damage to yourself or someone else if you were inexperienced, but so could any of us at the end of the day - you only need to be in the wrong place at the wrong time sometimes, regardless of car engine speed at the time.

Road deaths etc are highest for the younger ages, and then of course there are innocent bystanders/passengers who are also affected, but then the highest number of knockdowns is also in the younger category and usually involving kids with mp3 players, perhaps they should come with a road safety test thrown in.

For my part, if you want to do it and have the means, why not. Drive it responsibly and you will love it, otherwise it will bite you and could potentially ruin a lot of lives including your own, (as we all could). If you still want to go for it, I am sure you will get plenty of help from the forum and Chris.

Plenty may say that this is wrong, but I think if you are set on doing it then our way of mitigating that risk should be to offer you the best help and advice we can f you ask for it and at least help you as much as possible to ensure your car is safe. forums are for support and encouragement aren't they?

That said, if you have that much energy and drive at a younger age, think what you could achieve with your life if you channeled your energy into something other than building a Zcar..you may never look back (and can always build a car later on in life as some of us have).

I've had my say now so won't reply to anyone (please don't take offence), otherwise it will go on for ever as many people will have differing views to this, or even agree with my points.

Being older and "more experienced" does not entitle us to drive faster (or in a manner that requires more experience) on public roads.

Of course you can build one for 10k but it would have the cheapest bargain basement stuff throughout. Most people want something a bit better so it costs more.

Josh (Jobu) is an exception - he's young but has an usually mature attitude and a very in-depth knowledge of his "specialist subject" - 16v minis.

Certainly he's been able to show me a thing or two and I've got a decade on him.

No one said you couldn't make one for £10k, but you seem to be going into this with a very nieve attitude. Saying that paint will probably cost you this, and something else will probably cost you that is exactly how you end up spending well over £10k without realising, and probably how a lot of projects run out of money and never get completed.

I think you need to look a bit more into exactly what you want, exactly which 'options' you want, and exactly how much all the other bits are going to cost you. Post up a comprehensive list if you want, and we'll let you know if you've missed anything.
