on our third clutch slave cylinder, everyone said we'd kill clutches - not slave cylinders !
new sprint orientated gears installed and what can I say - Holy Cr*p springs to mind !!
Martin and his supercharged beast came over to John's fresh out of southam minis, and what a transformation - sounds awesome - John took if for a run round the estate, I followed him, we both floored it and I nearly rammed him in the back end
the acceleration is markedly improved and without a doubt the fastest mini I have ever owned. Such a small variation in gear sizes has made a very big difference.
it has its downfalls though - revs are up, to achieve cruising speed - approx 8000 to cruise at 70mph and as such its noisier - obviously !
top speed is down - at a guess 95-100 mph
torque steer is up - need to wrestle a bit when you floor it
but who cares ! it truly is a ballistic missile now on the sprint !!
I love it !!

What gearing did you have previously how many revs at 70mph for instance?

I am technically incompetant, and to a degree incontinent - but the original drive gear had 17 teeth, the new one 15 teeth - in ratio terms approx +13 % on the original drive as the diff gear stays the same. is that correct, mathematically ?
what diff are you using on yours?

Hello,
I agree with your calculations about 13% so you weren't that long geared anyway, probably 115 before and around a 100 now, I think it may be worth checking by rolling road that you are getting full power, it should easily be able to pull 115 and have fantastic acceleration.
I'm basing my gearing on what I had already in sprockets and also what I've seen in the zcar mini and kit car scene and that is 140mph, even I think it will be to long but it's what I had so why not try it. I'm hoping my car will be around the 400kg mark to keep the acceleration good without having very low gearing. It's a quaife atb diff so hopefully all will be well, I expect the performance to be at least the thirteens if not in the twelves, if not I'll want to know why
Cheers

wow, thats a lot lighter than roofless ! we'll be happy with 14's.
your pretty spot on with the top end - it is approx 100 now and I think a rolling road is desperately needed as she is running very rich. We've fitted a dynojet commander but we havnt fiddled with yet.

anybody know the chap that owns this Z. He's not UK but north Europe i think.

First of all, I'm new to the Forum so, Hi guys!
I´m working on r1 conversion mini only for trackdays by pro-motive kit, thinking of fwd is cheaper, easier for driving and quicker to convert. Shell and chassis belong to a mini7 so I guest it`s fair light.
But How much do you think it will be slower than a midengine rwd? Were you faster than a Zcar with roofless?
I´ve been looking for this question along the forum but i haven´t found your opinions, so I´m looking foward your replys.

its all about gearing - in a like for like comparison, Z and pro-mo, both running similar engines it would be a close caall thing, If you make a superlight shell and gear it right there's every chance it'll be faster than a Z.
we got a better time on the 1/4 mile but I dont think he was really trying too hard, his was a busa but it just seems as though it wasnt at full chat.
welcome to the gang though - yet another pro-mo kit in the making

Well i also would like to have a small discussion around the topic of who is faster! ZCARS OR PRO-MO!!!..........
Personaly it think this!
1)zcars has more traction! IE can fit bigger/wider wheels as they don't have to worrie about steering! but cornering i think would be better in the pro-mo!
2)zcars & pro-mo if weighed pro-mo would be the lighter!
3)pro-mo's transfer box takes alittle more power up than the zcars straight chain to the diff!
So in the end of it i think zcars will win BUUUUUT zcars ain't a real mini where as pro-mo is FWD & no modifications
IV by the way just a little update on my project!
Got the shell prepard for spraying! got my beam axle redy to go on when undersealed!
My kit is redy just need to pay! lol (anyone lend me sum cash lol free ride after build lol lol)
Roll cage is at power coaters!
Dash made.
Seats redy to go!
Wiring is no where to be seen!
Wheels bought & im refurbishing them as we speek!
So all in all give me anouther month & half & ul here me coming! with my shiny new scorpion racing can

I would love to see darren in the pro-mo demonstrator pitched against an R1 powered Z on a couple of laps - could be fun !!
