Tis all looking very nice!! What 1/4 time did you run?

my offical timings appear as follows - not as good as I would have liked but please bear in mind the tyres were cold, I used a soft gear change, I'm 18 stone, the car is actually quite heavy, and I only used 4 gears, and I've never done this before - a lot of excuses there wasnt there :)

time: 16.095 terminal speed: 87.450

I reckon if we get it all sorted, loose weight, use slicks and 6 gears, have john the racing snake drive it and smoke up the tyres pre-run we might get a low 14 - do you think this is feasible ? or am I day dreaming ?

Its certainly looking like the maximum speed will be in the region of the 120-125mph claimed by Pro-motive, I guess its all down to how fast / quickly we can make that top speed :o

The R1 engine is capable of a better time, my mate who has one in his Z Car mini on his 3rd or 4th attempt up the strip he got a 12.9, I know the traction is considerably better but it shows the potential of the engine. What gearing have you got it seems to be labouring it's way through the gears, I'm wondering if it's possibly too highly geared also it needs to be setup properly on a dyno if you haven't already done so

Looking very good though

Cheers
David

I think your right - my gearing could be better, and the boys at Pro-motive do do various gear sets, and we havnt made it to a proper dyno yet, even the power commander is only running the standard map.

12.9 seems optomistic and must be pretty scary, the Z's a way lighter than my old girl, but its a good target, thanks :o

dont think its so much about 1/4 miles with these motorbike engined cars. Ive noticed at these drag events that alot of them (all of them in my oppinion) really struggle off the line, especially the zcars kits. correct me if people no better! id be interested to no, but they just dont seem to really stand out at the drag events.

i think its due to the lack of torque the bike engined mini's struggle off the line, most people think horses but torque is also a major part for a quick run off the line.

If everything is right, they fly of the line, in fact that's they best feature!

Exactly, have a look at R1MiniMagic on the DVD, 0-60 in 4.5 secs and he's apparently quicker now! That's supercar performance!

Martin, your car is geared fairly high to make it suitable for general crusing and fast road, due to the ratio's being quite close on the bike gearbox.

Next time you want to do a qtr mile then call me and i'll sort you out a different sprocket set that'll really fly, it only takes 5 mins to fit so you can drive there and back on the high gear set and change it while your there. You will shave several seconds off your time with gearing, tyres and flat shifting, plus 6 gears!

One of our friends hit the limiter in top the other night chasing an 2.7 Alpina BMW, can't tell you how fast but think we need to increase our stated top speed!

Keep having fun with roofless, speak soon. Phil

 Not arf !!

PS, this whole torque thing - she flies off the mark and when we were 'playing' around on the back section of the track the acceleration is outstanding - next time I'll be less gentle and try Phil's new gear set.

wow! I cant wait >_<

new minor problem. chain has slackened of a bit and to get the tensioner sitting nicely its is wound right out but now clashes with the end plate on the engine casing and cant adjust any further - foolishly took a link out of the chain and now need new chain - can I cut the high tensile nut in half so it doesn't clash against the engine casing? :)
