the tyres on my 14's have a rolling radius only 6mm larger than 175-50-13's, they're a bit dearer and you're limited in choice. Having given mine a squirt tonight and spun the wheels in 2nd and 3rd I cant imagine what it would be like with 10's ? you must be leaving a lot of rubber behind you on them hill starts

Have you got a lsd diff fitted? and also do you know what the car is geared for topspeed wise

Looking very good by the way

Cheers
David

thanks for that, no LSD yet but following comments from other owners it may be a good consideration - figures wise ( from the pro-motive site ) 0-60 times are around 4 to 5 seconds depending on traction and gearing, terminal speed is about 125 in 6th.

feels twice as fast as that in a cabriolet

cant picture it in my mind at the mo - do you have to drop the subframe to change the diff?

I could cry.

looks like I have a blown head gasket and we cant get 5th and 6th gear, John had a preliminary inspection inside the gear selector shaft cover and has found a fistfull of creme cheese.

Its hard to guess if this is why the neutral switch burned out, cant get high gears and the smoking from the gearbox breather?

It starts, revs and runs great, just cant get upper gears I'd love to take it to someone who give us a definitive idea whilst the engine is still in the car, but due to my uncertainties, lack of proper understanding, and plain fear its just not sensible to drive the min untill we know for sure.

The engine is going to have to come out and thats going to take some considerable time.

All credit to Yorkshire engine services, who have said they will honour the warranty - all I need to do is get the lump to him.

Don't cry just yet. I posted a reply in the other thread where you were asking about the gear selecting problem ref head gasket failure. Fingers crossed it helps.

update time,

what a week or so its been !

thanks to all the good advice it turns out the head gasket defiantely hasn't gone - its fine !

went to the rolling road shoot out at southam yesterday and had some real fun. Didnt get a proper full power run, mainly due to the car trying to jump off the rollers :gimme:

whatever they tried, she just kept spinning the wheels up in 3rd and 4th - couldnt get the power onto the rollers.

unofficially the figures stood at 120 BHP in fourth at around 8000rpm.

she had plenty of legs left and if we had gotten 5th and sixth I'm confident we would have had some serious figures.

as it happens I happy to be the guy whos mini out-ran a rolling road :P

final result is that we need someone to drive her for me and give me a second opinion on whether they feel shes getting above fourth gear. having blown the cobwebs and snot out she is finding a definative clunk into what should be 5th and 6th, but the revs dont seem to drop, and acceleration doesnt really improve.

I think we're still resigned to pulling the engine out, taking malc's offer to return it to Yorkshire engines and have a full strip-down, inspection and repair as necessary. WE can at least get the Barnet clutch kit in at the same time.

Phil and Darren brought the demonstrator to the rolling road shoot out which has the new higher gearing - and by christ it flies - I'm seriously tempted :)

If you want me to pop over and give a spin, I will give you my personal opinion on the g/box.

I worked in Yamaha Dealership for 10 years and know these inside out.

Or was it a TVR dealership, can't remember, I'll ask my brother?!!!!
