The signal to the coils on an injected r1 is noisy when viewed on a scope. This gives poor results for a tacho input.
I use the No1 injector wire (orange one) for a good clean spike.

Where are you getting your signal from for the rev counter?

yes - works, thanks ! I'm sure you advised us of this previously and it worked straight away. It certainly makes the tacho work but it doesnt seem to be correct - in the sense it appears to be reading 1/4 the actual RPM, so we're sticking with this and getting a pulse amplifier / multiplier.
we are trying to use an elliot tacho rather than the yamaha tacho, and it has been problematic.

You will find that your tacho is for a four cylinder engine, but the bike engines have a wasted spark circuit so you need a tacho that you can actually set the nuber of cylinders on yourself, for example the Digidash and stack instruments have a programmable tacho. My stack has been set to a 2 cylinder motor.
I think this may help you as it may be worth mentioning this to elliot.
But thinking back i had an R1 powered mini here a few weeks ago and im sure it had a swith on the back of the tacho for either 6 or 8 cylinders so that maybe the way to go??
Cheers

Your absolutely correct - we have an elliot motorcycle guage that has been set to 2 cylinders by the manufacturer, I'm going to give the stack one a go, as you say its programmable so hopefully we can get it set right. untill funds permit we have a wiring / circuit diagram for a multiplier - 1 pulse in, 4 pulses out.
we'll get there in the end.................

I built a multiplier for my two stage launch control with no luck. Then I built a divider to pick up off the crank position censor (8 tooth per rev) still no joy. The only way I could do it was by building a software based map. Yamaha's use a variable square wave. I gave up in the end. The problem is the pitch of the wave form increases and also the voltage, Two elements.
I had a long chat to the guy at ETB about this.
All that said you should be fine with the stack dash. I hope.

This looks superb! Very nice conversion, I hope everything goes well for the MOT. This has surely got to be a magazine feature soon, so I hope the boys from Mini Mag are watching!
why thankyou Mr B' sturd, all credit to the chaps that have helped it all come together.
quick update,
few minor niggles from the MOT but nothing to worry about, silly things like reflectors on the rear and one cable tie on a CV boot.
Having driven it for a short while it feels great, but we've decided its going to go to promotive for a full check-over and final adjustment prior to being used on the road.
wont be at the show tomorrow, but I really want to be completely sure all is OK before we start doing any kind of proper distances.

Your paint job, is that Ford Imperial Blue ala RS Focus?
Tony
Its rage extreme from cambridgeshire chemicals AKA outrageous custom finishes.
the colour ref is purple / orange cf301 but it does tend to look more like a blue / purple colour flip.

Even the guys at the local Fraud dealer couldn't help as they only list current colours on their system.

It looks great. I am painting mine Imperial Blue, but been having a mare getting the colour code. So far I have had three test packs and all have been wrong. grrr.

Imperial blue is a wicked colour - I used to have a mondeo ST200 and everyone thought I had had it custom painted, they didnt believe it was a factory colour. It'll look superb on the mini.
Whereabouts are you based? We have a superb paint supply shop over in Nuneaton called NRP - Nuneaton replacement panels - talk to kev, he is a god of paint guys
