can anyone identify what these pipes are - are they the vacuum line that can be tee-d off for the brake servo?

thanks :)

alternatively can anyone point out where I should be drilling to get a vacuum point?

thanks even more :) :closed:

John and I put quite a few hours in tonight, and except for the top radiator hose, oil pressure sensor and a damned good clean - the noisy end of the car is pretty much finished.

John has also made good progress with the dash wiring and has indicators in place and the first guages hooked up.

I made myself useless by mainly putting graphics on tonight - and sorry pro-mo, the big sticker on the air filter had to go.

Still waiting for remainder of guages, gear position indicator, fuel return junction / pipe and a couple of other minor bits.

I'm still very, very excited :D

that looks like one nice bit of kit you got there?

Well here we are then..........

Roofless is pretty much finished, just a few minor jobs to complete but I reckon we'll get them finished tomorrow.

The only real outstanding issues are as follows:

1. still cant get either of the Tachos to get a realistic reading - really need more advice from Elliot guages technical experts
1. Brake servo has been T-pieced into the vacuum line for the fuel pressure regulator on the throttle bodies - it appears to work but needs proper testing
2. stereo needs fitting and final wiring
3. switches for rear electric windows dont appear to have a positive feed - so that needs a a bit of fettling - possibly fuses, possibly needs better swithches
4. Front passenger electric window mechanism needs adjustment
5. Suspension geometry needs setting properly - especially the rose jointed front end
6. Rollling road session will get the electronic speedo calibrated properly and the power commander set up right.

apart from that its really just a day with the bodywork / dent removal guy, and then a day with the valeter.

John and Martin ( chair of central minis ) did me proud today - whilst I was doing far more mundane work like silliness they got hell of a lot done - so thanks to the guys ! Especially Martin who should probably have been working on his own supercharger conversion but gave his time to me instead.

Gear selection in first gear is very clunky and harsh, we're hoping that its just down to clutch slave cylinder adjustment, and maybe gear selector cable adjustment.

Johns going to try and get the MOT booked for next Saturday morning, if it passes there may be a chance we cant resist a proper run - where's that show next Saturday ??

Thats John doing his best Stig impersonation - John, you forgot your helmet !!

One other thing if the idle is to high the gear selection can be very clunky

Cheers

Nice one - thanks David. Whats your ideal / recommended idle speed / Rpm ?

No problem roofless,
I'm looking in the Haynes manual, can't find an actual rpm quoted, it just says set the idle speed as low as it can go without it becoming uneven, what are you running at now?

without having a proper tacho working yet I would guess at 1300 - 1400 rpm when it first starts and then settling down to 1000 - 1100 rpm.

I've had the same failing with haynes manual, and R1 service manual - no real figures mentioned anywhere

You need an accurate reading from the rev counter I suppose, before you can check the idle speed properly, but getting it as low as possible will definately help.

Bikes are generally quite clunky into first, the yamaha being one of the worst, it doesn't help not having the rubber coupling in the car setup and also if the front subframe is solid mounted doesn't help either.

Good luck your nearly there, that's way better than me!

Cheers

Roofless,

I am going to be doing a similar build with Pro-motive conversion in a Clubby Estate.

I was reading about your brake situation i.e. servo assist and the requirement for a vacuum.

Can you post pic of your new vac feed?

Was talking to a mad nut where I work on my off roader and he suggested using something like a Citroen power steering pump, as they are electronic…

Silly maybe but just a thought!

Loving your build mate! Very inspiring!

Regards

Andy

Not silly at all - well worth looking at ! I have found out that many vehicles use electronic vacuum units but i didnt realise citroens did - so I'll look into it......

not sure at the moment how a power steering pump can be utilised for brakes, but John may understand better - I'll ask him tomorrow.

meanwhile right now we have literally used a t-piece from the windscreen water jets and plumbed it into the rubber hoses that are connected in series from each throttle body to the fuel pressure regulator switch.

it seems to work, but we havnt tested at speed yet.

I'll keep you all posted.

thanks
