imo no, though you would need to fix it back on, check you have a good spark at the plugs, replace the points and condensor or even the coil. when and after you have done those and it still misfires, well who knowsMy baby has a slight misfire and i checked the breather pipe and its cracked and keeps falling off, it may sound a stupid question but i am no mechanic, is this possibly why its misfiring? everything else seems fine.

I replaced the following (for just over £40...so nice and cheap) which solved it and it runs lovely now.
- HT leads
- Distributor cap
- Rotor arm
- points
- condensor
- new spark plugs
- new coil

Are you sure it is a misfire what are the symptoms? i.e. What is it you are experiencing?

Pull the plugs out and have a look in the plug hole with a bright (and small - like a pen light) torch and look at the tops of the pistons, check if they are encrusted with black carbon chunks / thick soot (a thin layer of soot is normal, thick and chunky is not). If so, a de-coke (head off job, or the cheapy "not-as good-but-better-than-nothing" way - Redex) is required (if the head is off, clean and lap the valves in at the same time). If plugs are black and sooty, then the fueling is too rich. White plugs indicate too lean, normal is tan (brownish) to blackish tan.
If engine is clear of excess carbon deposits, then the timing is prolly off - either adjust it yourself, or book it in at the garage.

high revs, on overrun...
If you can make it do it with the car stationary you could play around with your plug leads to see if it's related to a particular cylinder.

I am still going to de coke the cylinders and piston heads and use some carb and choke cleaner just so i know everything is sorted.
Cheers for all your help anyhows
