Todays progress was mainly confined to removing the brakes, discs and drive flanges from the old subframe ready for cleaning up to fit to new subframe.

The brakes and drive flanges feel very heavy compared with the rest of the subframe - think i'm getting the lightening bug, I can see alloy 4 pots, alloy drive flanges, alloy rear hubs and superfin drums being fitted before long along with anything else which lose's weight

Also looked at the fitting of the frame again and after a little jiggling and settling in place it all seemed to fit better and so the spacers I need will be thinner that i first thought which is good.

the hubs are titanium already :proud: its the drive flanges I was thinking of. Can't afford force racing drive flanges thou, but the alloy ones you can now get are a lot cheaper

for the rears I would probably go with the SC ones

Unless I go for coilovers and beam on the rear theres not a lot you can do with the radius arm - heard to many people saying they have bent the KAD alloy ones to easily

SC do some billet radius arms but again for coilovers only at the current time

Tonights small progress - one cut down mechanical fuel pump to give me a base plate to construct an oil return on as the one on the engine shall we say was a little 'crude' - sorry John!

If anybody else tries this please be ware there is an f ing strong spring which if your not careful fires at your head! Don't ask how I found this out!

Plan is to weld some pipes onto this to take the drain from the head and a breather upto the catch tank

Yes but thats £80 and fancied making my own

Did think about the steel plate and drill a hole etc but why buy the plate and some steel tube when I have a knacked mech pump and some alu tube already

About time I updated this....

So since last time I've made a new oil return drain point for where the old mechanical fuel pump would fit. I had intended to use the old mech pump as a starting point but as soon as my mate tried to weld it it turned into terminator 2 type stuff and just melted very odd! So made up a new backplate also. Pictured is new drain and old one next to it

Have also tidied up the oil filler (the old breather on the transfer case) that came with the engine. Brazed in the filler neck from an old rocker cover so the filler cap has something better to seal against. Also tidied up the welds around the oil drain inlet and breather output and gave it a coat of primer. Pictures to follow

Going to rub it down once dried and then repaint when I paint the engine and rest of the brackets etc

Have also made my spacer plates for the front subframe, just need to offer the frame back up to the car and drill the holes in the bulkhead to fit

And finally got bore so made a start on the spark plug cover, removing the BMW 4valve bit which would be upside down if left plus I dont like it and was thinking of something different for the cover

Hopefully subframe will be in this weekend and got the nuts and bolts I required at the weekend

Thats all for now

Cheers

Ian
