Well having just spent the day fitting my dashboard I thought'd take the car for a spin, somehow I have managed to knock something so that the speedo needle is twitching rather than going up steady. When you reach a constant speed it won't stay in the one place.

I've only played with things round the back and not removed the speedo cable, although I did loosen the two screws by the side of it before thinking better of it and tightened them up again.

Any ideas on how I solve this would be great as I don't want to get a speeding ticket! My only thought is that because the dials are now at a different angle that might have affected the balance...but hey what do i know!

I've removed the speedo brackets and screwed my speedo into the dash - could this make a difference as the angle will have changed?

Examine the speedo cable for any sharp bends and remove/relax any you find. Second, slightly loosen the nut on the back of the speedo that secures the cable to see if the problem goes away. The symptoms you're describing are normally associated with a cable that is binding up a little and then snapping loose. This can also be the result of a rusty, dirty, dry, or otherwise worn out cable. However, you didn't mention this being a problem before re-fitting the speedometer so it's more likely to be the routing or over-tightening.

Case closed - cheers dklawson for your spot on help! Kink on the wire and loosened the bolt, works a treat again.
