Yeah they are GTI engines, the particular one im using on this is MK1 but any will work.

Once I get the bits sorted it shouldn't be hard to produce more.
Dont really need money, its just getting the bits made takes time, mainly as im waiting on others.

Hi Great project i would also be interested in the kit if you do one.

Just mainly all needed to get the gearbox mated and working. The rest pipes etc i can fabricate myself.

How soon do you think till you have something solid that you would be able to produce do you think?? If thats your plan

It has been delayed a fair bit by me starting a new job and moving across the other side of the country,
partly as i now live in a flat where there isnt much room let alone a garage i can work on car bits.
How ever i am looking at houses and failing that i am also looking for garages to rent or buy.
I am also looking at getting more tools to do more myself.
So overall i have a lot of possible delays, as well as alot of plans.

If all went well i would plan on having something around summer time (cant promise anything though)
all depends on how work goes and if i can get somewhere to work on it here.

Will update when things start moving again.

I am still looking at the project, and do plan on making more if people are interested,
I'm just not making much progress.

I had a 1991 Swift GTi 13 Twin cam 16v I had it chipped by BBR so had approx 125bhp changed gear at a smidge under 9000 rpm and it really flew, would out pace a RS turbo up to about a ton, but was also really economical when driven with a little sense.

Very interesting. Any chance this modified gear box could work with an electric motor? I have been trying to figure out how to connect one to the original gear box without a clutch (don't need a clutch to shift with EV's). It seems like something very similar would work.

You could just fix the primary gear to your motor if you don't need the clutch. Though even if the motor doesn't need a clutch the gearbox might.

I didn't think 'leccy motors needed a gearbox either?

You can do direct drive but its more effecient to use the gearbox and be able to shift gears. You don't need the clutch as I understand it because electric motors do not have power if you let off the throttle. You lift of the throttle and then shift and then reapply throttle just takes longer to shift and you can't power shift. Sorry off topic. I was looking at this as a way to seal off the gearbox to contain its own oil and mate the motor to the gearbox. If it can be mated to a suzuki engine then it gives me hope.

cant wait for the finished article! ive got hold of a swift gti engine and box through work (suzuki dealer). Also ive found out that there are supercharger kits available for these, i know theyre available through suzuki (at special order and 12 week wait) via suzuki motorsport japan, although ive only seen these for the new swifts.

Been getting a little stressed recently with stupid people trying to sell houses, but ive been doing little bits on this to keep my mind off things.

Not really done much apart from changing to better bolts for the bottom of the engine and make flanges etc fit a bit better (helped by the bolts) still trimming to do on the flanges but not going to do anything like that until i actully come to getting them fitted in place.

Anyway a big thanks to Kev (SwiftMini) :shades: for sorting this 'small' piece of the puzzle :D Should allow me to get things in place and start things going again.
Just need to get it bolted on some how and check its alignment, then i need a 1275 mini primary gear (only have 998s  ) so i can line it up etc.

Not going to sell them, for couple of reasons,
but im not against selling just the ends, once i can get them made, once im happy with the final design.

Really shouldn't hijack Ed's thread but...

The gearbox's input needs to have no load very little inertia so that the synchros can match it to the output side being driven by the road wheels. I think that means a clutch, but some very clever electrics could set motor speed to match.

do you need a good 1275 primary or do you just need one for measuring up ?
