to be honest the Mosquito is just a mini front subframe welded to the back of the car and is part of it, hence me looking at this rather than the toyota idea. i dont want to start chopping the frame/subframe around to fit.
the engine steadys arent a problem, can always add more if need be.
the fun bit for me is the starter motor etc since thats where my bulkhead is.
the exhaust also causes fun, due to its extremly short run.
i cant afford a tony law bendy exhaust so would have to be a compromise between standard swift and full custom.
but we shall see.
Oh, what engine to look for and how easy to find?
can you change the cam's without upsetting the standard ECU?

does the mini starter not fit?
The swift manifold is pretty good as far as stock cast manifolds go, and hopefully the bottom section can be made to meet a mini exhaust so you might get away with the one you have depending what you have. (I know what its like with a short exhaust
, you just need a ruddy huge back box)
for the engines you just need to find a Suzuki "Swift GTI" one (DOHC), although any version will fit (8v sohc, 16v sohc) as long as it has the G13 block (A and B versions will work) the GTI is the only one with Forged bottom end, and a solid crank, the others have a weaker crank, (just dont expect to turbo one and it survive
also it doesnt matter which year either as it will take one from '86 Mk1 to '89 Mk2 to '96 Mk3 to '04.
Later ones (Mk2) 90 onwards have a couple more ponies as standard as well as a wider cam belt which gives a long service interval for cam belt changes.
Quite a few Mk1 bits wont fit onto the MK2 or higher engines (i.e. heads are not interchangeable). But from Mk2 onwards most bits are the same (odd little thing is different).
You can change the cams, although it may be worth chipping the ecu, but it really depends on the setup and power you want?

OJZ in Nottingham - online, bend pipe cheaply worth a look you could mod a straight exhaust.
I made an engine steady out of thick sheet that goes between the front member of the subframe and the nearside engine mount / radiator bracket using tie bar bushes. Seems quite sturdy something similar might work for you.

just a little bit of info for you - EVERY crank in EVERY engine (unless billet steel) will be forged, a cast crank would simply disintegrate at the first sign of any form of power
can't wait to see this working though!

yeah, but the weaker ones actually have holes (partly hollow) in them to lighten them. and (from what ive read) dont have forged con rods.
Similar thing with MK2+ cams, they are hollow to lighten them and improve acceleration.

Ed, I may be able to help out with the crank thing. I can do the drawings easy enough. Plus I know a few good machinists. If I can help out, I will!

Thanks Matt, Will see how i go with the list i have at the mo (its starting to look like a yellow pages for Engineering companies
)!! Id be supprised if i cant find one out of them willing to do it!!
Thanks anyway though.
by the way Nice Midget, is it yours? (it was a midget right?
)
Spoke to the guy about the drawings today and he said he would ring the machinest to get the spec of the crank taper for the mini crank end.
So I may ring tomorrow to see if he has done the drawings
Then ill ring a couple of places.
It is taking a while, but ill be very happy once i have the first crank end in my hands

I saw that. £750 for just the engine with no injectors or anything
Why are there no swifts at all round here? They're all oop north or down saarf. I'm on the lookout now.

oops, yeah I misread the second paragraph and thought it meant you just get the engine and no gearbox/ injectors.
