you wouldent be able to tell me how much clearence there is between the top of the engine without the filter on and the bonnet would you, cus it could fit in a minus without the silly bonnet bulge as its looks pretty dinky in there.

there isnt alot to be quite honest i dont have a filter yet for mine, the carbs have little rubber trumpets on them and i'd say they are within 2 inches of the bonnet when closed mines a single skin fibreglass thing too without the strengthening kinda bits on the back of it it'd be very close to a std bonnet

you could run it without the trumpets and a super thin filter i'm not sure on minus dimensions but i'd like to think it'd go in you might have problems with a rad,

i'd love a tax exempt minus no tax and no rust...

Darrens original yellow car has about 20mm clearance(without measuring it) from the air filter to the standard bonnet. If you were to use a TTS compact foam filter you could have around 50mm clearance. As for the rad if the minus uses a standard rad then it will be no problem as it is only moved side to side.

howdy, don't think this got answered earlier on in the thread but i was wondering what the scope was for a 'busa engine fit. will your subby need modification? and if so, how much?

The busa is quite a bit bigger than the R1 about 4 inches extra depth, reading the thread it appears that the R1 only just fits, so a busa in a standard front doesn't sound realistically possible, the mounts of course are all different, probably would required an extended front unless you could move back into the footwell bulkhead

Cheers
David

cool, thanks mate. was only thinking of the 'busa because of the extra torque it has over the R1 unit.

i'm really tempted to do this engine swap in my mini considering i don't think the 998cc lump is going to stand up to much more of the abuse i give it, going to need a new clutch before too much longer!

i'd be interested to hear the opinions of people (darren, lee, R1mini et al) on whether this would be a viable conversion for everyday use, about 6000 miles a year.

IMO the price of the Busa outweighs the extra torque it gives you.
