So a peice of pee for anyone with a flipfront!!

like you wouldn't beleive....

all lee did was assemble the front suspension and pop it in. darren help'd him set up the and fit the engine in the subframe when there.

easy as pie

obviously there are going to be minor niggles like wiring but that will all be sorted long term i think

It would be good to see what else you have changed / modified with the car. Like brakes, suspension, electrics so dreamers like me can see what is involved in a total conversion...

I am with him ;D

Maybe once I got an MOT it would be the next step. . . my trouble will be with insurance I bet. . .

I like the argument discussion about reverse gear. If you live on a hill, drive forwards up the hill and use gravity for reverse. If its flat, just push! No one is too posh to push! :proud:

yeah i would recomend a flip/removable front yes...
i'm trying to keep the build as simple as possible i'm sure once a few more of these have sold they'l be much more adventurous conversions going on but hey i'm i'm doing this for myself you for you lot haha

suspension issues may be sorted with the help of my girlfriends dad who is going to machine me some new spring tops that fit snugly into the subframe just like the origional rubbers do...

brakes are taken care of by minispares 4 pot alloy calipers running without a servo mainly for simplicity and because i dont have one

fitted up my gear linkage today and am waiting for an adaptor to fit my fan switch and temp sensor into the top hose of the rad, i'm keeping my heater matrix so i've worked out how to plumb that in and have been getting t pieces and chopped up an old mini hose to work with that, need to modify my inner wing for air flow to the rad and make some brakets to mount the it

probably come the weekend i'l start to think about the wiring and trying to get the engine to run then i can chop out what i dont need and sort out my new fuse box and tidy everything up

how's it going then lee, any further on?

was thinking about the lack of weight over the front wheels, will this have a knock on effect on traction or is it a case of using the good old right foot traction control?

How well do you think a y2k R6 motor would stand this conversion? too underpowered?

nice :techsupport:

the reverse could be done useing a ratchet kinda system on the rear wheels but who wants the ticking of a ratchet system behind them all the time? so i think a clutch would be in order. so when you turn on a switch the clutch engages and you press a button to reverse or a sensor could somehow be put into the accelerator cable of you could have a dial. also maybe it would be a good idea to put into the ignition system that when your in reverse it doesnt let you start the engine or have it running so say if you leave it enguaged it wouldent burn out when you drive forward..

if im talking gibberish hit me with a stick!

and i still think it would be bloody quick as the r6 is rated at 130hp @ 14500 rpm (EEK!)

so say a mini is 700kg

it works out to be about 180 per tonne
the r1 works out at about 260 per tonne

so its prefect even if you did it with an r6 for raceing chavs off the lights at macdonalds if thats your thing

sorry i dont have a calculator handy

a 600 wouldn't be the best engine as its the torque that bike engines lack over cars and no R6 produces 130bhp lol (maybe a blueprinted brittish super stock engine) my r1 motor will just about manage that...

it seems like i havent got anything done but i have been doing wiring and filling oil and more wiring lol i'm trying to use the R1 clocks so having to tap into each loom and trim out what i dont need been working out the ignition swich positions today and what needs to go into what wire lol ( i'm not the best with wiring)

as far as fueling goies i'm using my stock tank as it doesnt need a return and i'm mounting the R1 fuel pump as low as i can by the back of the tank and running a flexible fuel line to the carbs.

i should be getting my driveshafts off my T@Z tomorrow so i'l be stripping and cleaning them next week then assembling the hubs and brakes i'd like to have some dash lights and maybe even the engine turning tomorrow i'l keep you all posted if i can get the dash lights i'l post a pic of my dash it looks really good i think

oh and as far as traction is concerned i've got fully adjustable front suspension and an LSD so i think i'l find a decent setup and it should be ok

thnanks lee

They have plenty of power for what they are (R6) but unless the all up weight of the mini is 350kgs, don't bother, even with the R1 if you want it to be really fast it needs to be about 500kgs, otherwise it's about as quick as a good hot hatchback

I like these bike powered minis, I'm building one but in order to be really quick you need to lose lots of weight

Cheers
David
