As I'm driving, once I get over 4000RPM, the needle on my rev counter begins to bounce wildly from 4-5K and I can't get a solid reading... any explanations for a bouncy tach?
Smiths gauges, 1983 mini with a 1275 three main clocks behind steering wheel and three small clocks in the center
Thanks

Is the engine running OK? A bouncy rev counter can be caused by a dodgy ignition coil, or a loose connection on the coil. But you would get a misfire as well.

Mine turned out to be the connections on the coil being loose. So there's somewhere to check.

Thanks for the info guys... I'll check all of those things either today or over the holiday weekend (it's Memorial Day weekend here in the 'States)
the engine seems to me running fine except for two issues... I have a tad bit of run-on when I shut down sometimes... and when I'm driving at a high rate of speed for a while on a highway, as I exit the highway and I depress the clutch to change gears, the RPMs drop off and the motor stalls... but only if I've been driving steady at 4K RPMS for a bit (15minutes or so)

i've had run on for a little while now and one of my fuses kept blowing. I've changed the coil and it seems to have sorted both problems out !!!
