Hi All,

We have been approached to make a replica set of Mini Cooper 'High Back' Recliners.

The question is, will there be a demand for them? We currently make replica MK1/2 Cooper seats and standard seats.

We wish to gain your opinions:

1. Would any body else be interested?
2. Is it a good idea?
3. Does anybody need a retrim of a 'High Back' Recliner?

If there is a good response we will make jigs, tools and patterns for production, if not it will be done as a one off.

You can check out our seat and door trims at www.styletodesign.co.uk/miniseat

Thanks for all the good comments from the launch at Stoneleigh.

Martyn

Do you mean the seats from the later mpi minis? if so then i think there would be a call for the leather version, both black/black and silver and the cream leather versions.

The seats would be like the original Mk1 factory high back seats.

I have the later style Mpi Seats, No probs with retrimming them.

The price would be as on the website for Leather Seats, as long as it would be a standard colour.

Hi Martyn,

Good to see you on the forum, I talked to you for quite a while at Stoneleigh. Still very impressed with your seats and hopefully I'll be getting some in the summer. I've mentioned your product on here a couple of times.

You do hear about people after these seats from time to time. It gives a chance for an original looking mk1 to get a more secure and safe seat (as well as far more convenient than the old fixed back) without breaking the original feel. I would imagine that the setup costs for your foam mouldings are fairly high though so I don't think you'd see a very rapid return on the money. I reckon you'd get it back eventually but not for some while.

Thanks Dan for the comments and plugs, much appreciated.

What colours, style would you be after.

Wow, looking at your site, your seats look top notch. I know where I'd get seats from if I were restoring something special!!

I have found some pics of the high back.

The frame of a standard recliner would be modified. A new foam would be made to look like the photo.

Pretty much the set you had at the show. Still largely TBC though.

Mk1/Mk2 highbacks would be good, I would possibly be interested in a pair for the pickup, my brother has a mk2 set that needs recovering too. Will the material/foam be a good replica of the original?

I think Newton Commercial do them, although I think they have plastic knobs to control the backrest, which could spoil the look of an original early car in my opinion.

Maybe worth guaging interest on the Mini Cooper Register forum, as they are the sort of guys that would buy covers or seats. Original highbacks are worth a fortune now, so a very good replica at a cheaper price should sell well!

Any chance of getting your brother to measure the height of the back of the seat, from the bit you sit on to the top?

The foam would be a moulded one just like my others. This is more durable and comfortable than the standard hand cut foams. The covering material will use modern expanded vinyls. They look pretty much like the old vinyls but are much more durable. Less prone to tearing. The feature lines will be sewn in rather than welded.

If you have a pick up would you still want the reclining bit?
