I've got some new numberplates to fit, my GT stripes to fit, arch trim, and a good rub down and polish to get the most from the paintwork.
I've done 450 miles in it now, and its running like a dream!
Once saturday comes I'll be doing a lot more driving, and will hopefully have it looking top notch then (apart from the fuel spillage down the side), so I'll get some 'atmospheric' pics then

so far i've fitted my new GB Euro plates, some new shiny Tex chrome mirrors, and then last night we fitted a new fuel tank!
The old one had been well damaged (someone trying to remove the cap I think), and had leaked fuel (apparently you could see it pouring out on right hand bends) all over the panel underneath the filler. So I rubbed down and sprayed the panel, removing the bumper, arch, trim and lights to do it properly.
Then we fitted the new tank, wired it all up, and found the sender was knackered, open circuit. So we changed the sender (took the one out of the damaged tank), and hey presto, leak free tank! I haven't brimmed it (frankly I'm a bit nervous of doing that, I do not want to damage the day old paintwork!), so for the time being I'll run it at half full until I'm sure.
Tonight I'm going to rub down the bottom of the doors and rear panels, and fit my 1275GT-style stripes (but they don't say 1275GT), then re-fit the arches and fit the arch trim, hopefully for the final time! Then I have 40 miles to do until the next oil change.

The bloody thing got me to Germany and back yay!!
There's a few issues though.
First of all I knackered the clutch diaphragm on the way back, going through the tolls in the Dartford Tunnel. All of a sudden in traffic the clutch went light and the biting point moved almost to the floor, accompanied by a horrible creaking noise when the pedal was pressed. Hopefully the diaphragm is all thats damaged, but I think that'll just be it, I haven't actually stripped it yet.
Secondly, the fuel filler is STILL leaking! Mine isn't the only car that does it, a lot of Mini's on the trip did, but they all have nice hard paint that doesn't get damaged. Mine, being only a week old, was all stripped off by the petrol again . So, I'm going to relocate the fuel filler. I've found a nice stainless screw car filler, and am going to modify a 7.5 gallon tank to accept this filler. To access it the boot will be opened, and it will mean the paintwork will stay pristine. It'll also provide a symmetrical rear end, and will be a bit different. I'll lose a little bit of capacity on the tank, but nothing huge.
Thirdly, the temperature. I'm stilll worried about it, so i've bought a new temp gauge to fit, and we'll see how it goes. Failing that, I'm going to fit a front mounted radiator and electric fan from a metro, which'll help cooling, and allow better air flow to the supercharger I'll be fitting next year!
Today I spent a bit of time on the old beast, and have modified the centre console to accept a gauge holder (see below!). Fitted into these three holes will be a boost gauge for the 'charger (when its on), a secondary tacho and the vacuum gauge. I'll put the capillary temp gauge into the dash, so the most important ones are higher up.
Erm, think thats about it really, hopefully the tank mods will start soon! I'll keep updating this now and again when I get the chance!

I've fitted a high capacity deep impellor water pump, which has solved the overheating issues. With the new capillary gauge fitted (V) I can now see that the temperature has never risen higher than about 80 degrees, even when sat stationary, with the heater off. So thats a big improvement!
I fitted the new gauges last weekend, and got them all wired up and working - here's a pic of my 'office' now:
I've also fully lined the rear seats, parcel shelf and roof with some nice black carpet, which has gone quite a fair way to deadening the sound inside. Its also made it a lot cosier, there's hardly any exposed metal, and it looks a lot neater in there too.
Next job is to fit the new clutch arm (weds night), then have a look at the fuel tank. But I think that can wait for a bit now!

Jackman - I got it from Stanford Hall, it was a tenner with 3 gauges in! TJenkos had the gauges, so I got the holder. Its almost identical in width as a standard DIN headunit, so fitted well in the console.

To this:
(the front end looks high because there's a jack underneath it!)
Its due to be finished the day before Bingley Hall, so will look good for then. Got some Yoko A032's on the way for it too.
Sorted.

well we sprayed it with acrylic enamel paint for the purple, which if I'm honest is pretty pants. So I'm getting the whole car done in 2 pack, and without the proper facilities to do it at home its the one job I thought I'd get someone else to make a good job of. Its staying the same colours as it is now, just with a much deeper finish.Hey Tom I missed why you said you were respraying it again.... so here it comes, WHY!?! :saywhat:
Al
Nick, no I'm driving it to the sprayers (in stoke) tomorrow morning with the 10's on, then I've got some 12's which came of minimadjonesy's Clubby which'll go on when its at the paint shop. Then while its being sprayed I can get the 32's put on the 10's.
Drove it for about an hour today in its stripped down state, it was so much fun  Loud and cold, but bloody good fun all the same - felt a lot nimbler too because of the lack of glass etc.
Oh yeah, and I had a ride and drive in a 1330 Moke last night too, just gotta get the video I took from my phone to the computer :erm:
