ok, tonight I rubbed down the bonnet, bootlid, doors and roof, ready for their final coat of paint. That should happen tomorrow.

Dad re-inforced the home made engine steady bracket today, and then we fitted a replacement brake pipe and bled the brakes, so now it has fully functional brakes again! Another part of the car that does something!

Tomorrow the plan is to spray and fit the fuel tank (only needs a waft over for appearances), then fit the fuel lines. I also want to wire in the rear loom, which shouldn't take too long, and test the electrics (which will be scary). Then I'm playing squash tomorrow night at 8.45, so want to aim to get it all done before then.

Hoping for an MOT on tuesday, am going to use this weekend for the final detailing.

I've gotta have some downtime Charlie!

Woohoo!!

 just spoke to Simon at Morspeed, my gearbox is done, with 4 pin diff, drops, etc, all ready!

The pistons are on the rods, the crank is wedged and balanced, the block is being prepped, head is being prepped on monday when the rest of the engine is ready.

I'm very nervous now, collecting it on monday night! So I'm going to spend this weekend getting the rest of the car ready for it, getting the cage bolted in, lights on, screens in, etc.

Looking at it, its actually not that far away at all. Which is scary.

10 months off it being off the road, and its about 4 days from going back onto it! I still haven't found anywhere to do me some PROPER pressed steel number plates, but I've an idea there'll be someone at MITP who will do it for me. So I'm going to get some cheapo ones made up at Halfords, put them on for the time being, then get the real ones made up at MITP.

Everything is painted now too, the roof is finished, as are the bonnet, doors and bootlid. Just a few details to sort out, and its rock and roll.

eeek

the dash came from A Dash Of Colour - its covered in black leatherette (or vinyl I think is another word for it!). It does look pretty good I have to admit!

Thanks for the reminder Jackman, although working at Halfords for three years I had to tell lots of people they needed their V5 - dealt with muchos shouting because of that!

well, look whats it looks like now!

i have electrics!!:

Posted Image

It was scary!

After psyching myself up to actually put the battery on, and organising a plethora of fire extinguishers in convenient locations, everything worked!

The headlights, sidelights, indicators, horn, wiper motor, washer motor, brake lights and reverse lights all worked!

The dash lights and voltmeter all work too....

The only thing that didn't was the hazards, which after consulting Haynes I remembered that an inline fuse holder had broken. Hey presto, changed the holder, and the hazards worked!

I obviously can't test the heated rear screen (no screen in) or the starter solenoid/starter/dizzy/coil wires yet, due to the lack of an engine, but everything else is perfect.

Oh yeah, the digital clock in the top dash rail works too! I'm so happy!!

not until I get it out of the garage Mincento! Which is scheduled for tuesday.

Today I have fitted the fuel tank and fuel lines, re-worked the rear wiring to the lights because I fitted new rear light clusters, and fitted the roll cage front and rear complete.

Oh, and I did a full service on my Polo too!

Doesn't sound like much, but I started at 8 and have just finished!

Looking forward to tomorrow, I am going to build the doors and bootlid, get them fitted, fit the rear bumper, fit the graphics and all the glass (windscreen, side windows, rear screen) and fit the arches.

Then I can go and get the engine tomorrow evening about 6 ish, drop it in, connect everything up, and go round the car do a final nut and bolt check....

then fire it up!

scary stuff.
