What did the MOT station say when you went back with proof? Did you make them look foolish??? Also what are you up to this Sunday Tom?

Yup, the MOT dude reckoned he couldn't see where the speed and ply ratings were on the tyres, so I dutifully pointed them out - then I showed him the handbook for the car which clearly shows the tilting seats....needless to say he was rather red-faced and made it clear he didn't want to MOT it or another Mini again! D***head!

Thanks for all the comments everyone, like I said before, it really does make it all worthwhile! I really LOVE driving it now, whereas with the 1293 it was hard work, trying to get the most out of the engine without thrashing it. In this the torque comes in bucketfuls from 1000 rpm, and the noise and the speed is just immense. I keep telling myself its only a 1.6 8V, but the look on the face of the CTR driver earlier on proved the performance is a bit special! 1.6 16V on throttle bodies to follow within the next couple of years though, 160bhp 140lb ft mmmm ;D

Anyway, a couple more pics of it finished (just not washed or polished yet!) for you to peruse:

Tim, not doing much this sunday, text me if you fancy meeting up!

(oh yeah, and on private land earlier I got 90mph in 5th at 4000 rpm, eeek!)

Sterling job Tom! Looks great!

I'll look forward to seeing this again as it was nice with the normal a-series lump now it's a bit more "interesting" :dontgetit:

Just a couple of questions if you could indulge me, Does the bonnet always sit like that or is it just "popped" in that photo?

Also the ride looks a little high to me? Am i on drugs? :( ;D

But one thing you know it's only a matter of time before you get used to that engine and start hankering for more power.......... :D

A quick question from me also. The upgrade to 16V, is that just a change of head, or another engine swap?

best bet is and engine swap , as the pistons have cut outs for valves etc , allot easier to just swap the engine.

did you use the F15W in the end mate ?

Ade: Yeah the height isn't quite spot on yet - I'm still playing around with it to get it at the right height, although the exhaust sits pretty low and there's some bumpy local lanes so its a compromise!! :D Oh, the bonnet always sits like that, its resting on the rear hinge bolt, which has the effect of making it sit up and the back. I have it like that mainly because it looks good, but also because it should provide a bit more airflow over the engine at higher speeds (not that it needs it!).

Jammy - the 16V is best done by just fitting an X16XE complete engine, as Matt says the pistons are right etc. The engine mountings are exactly the same though so it should go straight in with no worries - apart from the wiring and fuel delivery etc....

Matt - Yes I've used the F15W - its a bit noisy but it should be ok I reckon.

Tom - yeah I'm pretty chuffed, just want to get out and use it!!!

Thanks for the kind comments everyone!

Cracking Mini you have there Minis84, one of the tidyest C16's i have seen to date.

I was wondering if it would be possible to do a "How To" guide, ie; what parts are needed, average cost, parts suppliers, etc.

This would definately help a few of us later on when we decide to do our own conversions.

Ta much, Gary

P.S. The Mini looks FUC**NG awsome, well done mate :D

Thanks Gary - I've seen some messy ones so went out of my way to make it a bit tidier! I'm in the middle of doing a how-to - it won't be comprehensive, but it'll give an idea of what to do, how to do it, and where to go to get the right bits!

Ali - LMAO! :D

Mart - Don't know yet, the one I've got on is doing the job for the time being, I'm going to pick the belt up from Nick one night soon so I'll let you know - ta for getting it though :w00t:
