The gearbox sold within 2 hours of my mate knowing it was for sale, and the engine went the next day, as a complete unit, got excellent $$ for it too
I'll keep you informed as to how its all going!
I'm also going to be building a new centre console at the same time, to conceal the Vauxhall gear selector mechanism, and also to house a head unit and two speakers, and provide good ventilation for the heater. We'll see how it all goes, but fingers crossed!

Haven't actually physically got any further, but I've been doing LOTS of thinking of how to do things etc....so although the possible problems are still there, everything is in place in my head!
I'll get cracking soon, really need to get my engine out and to the buyer to free up some cash to go spending on C16SE's...

Lots of stuff from the A-Series department on the car has sold, apart from some of the bigger items which I reckon I'll chuck on eBay soon.
I've just bought a complete C16SE MPi engine/loom/ecu/injection unit, and gearbox, basically everything that came out of the Astra.....I've also bought an F15 gearbox from an Astra TD, as I reckon with the 10's this'll allow me some use of first gear, and will also bring the rpm down to about 3500 in fifth at 70mph. Matt from the 16V Mini Shop has sorted me out with all of this - have a look on the shop and you'll get an idea of what you need to do to do your own conversion!
I've decided to go for the Smiths Telemetrix range of gauges, they do some really nice looking stuff, I've got a 0-8000rpm programmable tacho, a 0-140mph programmable electronic speedo with odometer and tripmeter, and I've gone for a voltmeter, electric temperature gauge and fuel gauge.
The fuel gauge needs to be recalibrated, as the Mini sender unit works on 285ohms empty and 20ohms full, Speedy Cables will be doing the work for a tenner, so it will read correctly.
As for the speedo, it uses an electronic pick-up and magnets, much in the same way as a pushbike speedometer does. I was thinking of mounting the pick-up and magnets on the front hub, and using the driveshaft to mount the magnets, but then I thought its possibly prone to damage up at the front, and if wheelspinning would not give an accurate reading. So insteady I'll mount it to the rear backplate, and fix the magnets to the outer edge of the drum, This should allow a correct reading.
Still got lots of other things to sort out, but the basics are there. The frame should be ready in about 3 weeks to a month, engine will be here sooner than that too.
Lets hope I get it all in before the BH2N run!
