Hi guys, this is a bit of an odd one

What product can I apply to bare metal to protect it, but not leave a funny colour. So something like a lacquer or clear layer? I don't think I will be able to WD40 the parts everyday... even If I like the smell

Stop using WD40 straight away. it's a bugger to degrease as it seeps into the metal.

You can simply pop a layer of laquer over the bare metal... what is it you're doing? need more info really. You'd be better off etch priming in my opinion mate.

You can buy proper metal laquer which actually penetrates the metal, rather than holts car laquer that lays on there like a pool of water.

Okay what Im planning to do is remove all the paint from the bonnet and leave it that way. Yes i like upsetting the purists who think my pick up should be factory spec.....

Also most of the panels I have stripped have wd40 protecting them. I went away for 5 months. Im going to use petrol to clean all the panels....... i ran out of wd40 and had to use engine oil the day before i left :)

If I was you, I'd take your nicely stripped bonnet to a bodyshop and ask them to use plenty of 2 pack laquer on it.

Laquer out the can never seems to last long, 1 pack seems to go funny alot too.

Although it does sound like a good idea to me.

Bare metal it and then treat it with POR15 metal ready or metal mask, it will give it some protection

Have a little search for por 15 on here or go to frost clicky
