No worky
Culprit
Shiny new one
Mark a happy man
So with that, decided to go and dilute the year old petrol that's in the tank, so off for a tank of Shell's finest, still only cost £24 to fill it from just about 1/4 tank, that works out about £100 cheaper than filling the Range Rover from 1/4
Took the scenic route home, about 3/4 an hour detour in fact, took it steady the whole way apart from 5 mins from home when I stuck my toe down, was running absolutely beautiful, bit tweaking of the fuelling and ignition map to be done for around 2k rpm, but nothing major. Even embarrassed some kid in a 'fast' Corsa SXI too, he thought he'd be able to keep up on the twisties. Wrong!
So I'm confident it's running good now so I can just drive it and enjoy it over the summer, I'd like to get it booked in to Motorscope or anywhere else local that has a good reputation for a full rolling road tune to get the best out of the engine, might give them Motorscope a call and have a word about it, see if they can do anything with it.
I'm off to a local classic & American car thing down at the Metro Centre in Gateshead tomorrow night if the weather stays good too, so I'll take my camera

So, on ebay, found a new Rover MPI door that had never been painted. It's dated 1999 has a couple of small dents off storage but that's nothing. So hoping it will fit better than the one that's on, I'll get it painted after I've drilled all the holes for the central locking and see how the electric windows will fit etc.
Whilst the door is in getting painted, I'm having the passenger rear 1/4 panel redone as that's all rippled too.
Next on the list of stupid things that annoy me with the car, the genuine W&P arches which, frankly, look awful. They've never fitted properly, the quality isn't very good either, a major disappointment as they're supposed to be one of the best.
So, going back to the standard arches already in black, unsure if I'll have them painted, they'll do for now, then if I decide to go for new wheels, (Force racing ones will have to wait a while ) I'll get some bigger arches that will hopefully fit better.
So for now, (& £20 from Mini Spares - bargain!)
They also came with the fixings and the 2 sill trims, although they'll need straightening out with a heat gun
If the weather stays good today, I'm gonna see about fitting the arches.

So, this week, I'll be giving the paintwork a good going over, give the engine a quick service, well, change the oil mainly, sort the ride height and whip the exhaust off to paint the silencers before they rust.
So with a bit of luck, over the next few weeks, project money pit will be back
I might even take it for a drive too, I think it's done a whopping 53 miles since it's MOT

I certainly know what you mean about losing motivation with a Mini, even a MOT'd road-going one. Little things bring it back though Give yourself a kick to the garage!

I've got an early-ish finish tomorrow I think so I'm going to go and get cracking with the car though.

But, it has an MOT still, and is insured again, so the logical thing was to tax it, I think I have a day off tomorrow so no doubt take the car for a well deserved run out then a good wash, machine polish and wax as surprisingly, it's filthy. I went over to the garage a few weeks ago to start it up to make sure the battery was still good and that it would run with year old fuel. Fired up on the first turn and ran sweet.
I can't wait to get behind the wheel again.

First up, the boot lining kit, it was dark grey, but looked a bit off as everything else in the car is black, so bought 5m x1m of black carpet and retrimmed it so it now matches quite well.
Also, the centre arm rest sides are looking shabby, one side is warped and the other is a bit tired looking, so carpeted one of them front and back, I'm waiting on some rubber edging trim to tidy it all up once it's finished. The centre console sides will get the same treatment too.
The warped one is going to be cut out of 6mm ply and covered, then it'll just need carpeted and ready to fit back in the car.
I'm also going to make another boot lid liner as the fibre board one I bought turned out to be rubbish quality and it trashed.
And a quick pic after giving the car a much needed wash.

Those W&ps do look so good. It's a shame they don't fit well.
