I've also never been 100% happy with the sound quality from the front speaker pods. The speakers themselves are very good, and when you listen carefully, you can tell they'e kicking out a nice sound, but the enclosure isn't sealed and it's ruining it.
So, I've bought a set of these to attach to the inner arch. I'll pack them with acoustic wadding too to give them a better sound. Hopefuly, they'll seal a bit tighter against the car.
So first job when I get the car back is to fit those.

I might still repaint it though and maybe even paint some other bit in the engine bay. The black silicone hoses that I bought didn't fit, so I'll look into getting some new ones, then all the chrome will need polished again.
Undecided if I like the satin/matte finish, I keep thinking that gloss black on the engine block and satin on the flywheel cover etc. would look better.
Still though, it drives very nice, a little lumpy on idle, but the mid range pick up is good. The 3.1 final drive makes alot of difference too, it now cruises comfortably. The gearbox is very tight and precise, just goes to show how worn the old selectors etc were.
In total, it's had the following.. (probably more but I've probably forgot!)
4 baulk rings
1st/2nd synchro hub
3rd motion bearing
Something else relating to 3rd gear, but I can't remember what!
Selector fork
Clutch kit
266 cam & followers
Oil pump
Water pump
Crank polished
Bottom end bearings
Timing chain and tensioner
All new core plugs
All new gaskets
Block helicoiled in a few places
Gearbox helicoiled in a few places
All new engine and gearbox gaskets, (except head gasket)
3.1 final drive
Recon. starter motor as the original had a big crack in the solenoid terminal cover that was letting water in.
So now it's back, I'm going to give it a good wash and polish, then clean the interior out. I'm also 'adapting' the front speakers to fit the new pods, read: curving the basket supports inwards and adding a spacer ring to the pod to allow the speaker to sit in and get a good seal. So they might be fitted tonight if the rain stays away!
So all in all, I'm really happy with the work Green & White have done, I can't recommend them highly enough and would suggest that anyone in the North East should use them.

Quickly dodged the rain and got the front pods fitted, I have just noticed that the passenger one is slightly lower down than the drivers side, No worries though as it's easy to re-drill the holes to mount it higher up, plus the fixings are hidden. Sound quality has improved no end as they're now sealed whereas the old ones had quite a gap in them at the back. I'm still going to add some acoustic wadding inside them though and see if it improves them further. Again, excuse the crappy iphone pictures, I should really use my proper camera

Look great mate! How have you mounted these pods? I''ve just bought something similar.

Engine now a better shade of black
The bonnet catch cover always bugged me, the bolts were the original ones and looked a bit tatty, I had these 2 torx bolt spare off when I changed the rear door latch on my van and they're the right thread so used those instead, trivial I know, but it always stood out I thought. Bonnet now closes better as I had to realign the catch
Gave the alternator a quick coat too, It'll do until I get a new uprated one.
The rad fan is no longer yellow too, it's alot more subtle than when it was yellow.
And finally the new grille, I think it gives it a more modern look but still a bit retro.
