If you look at my signature you'll see a strikethrough on my door number which is mandatory for driving on the road so you don't get nicked.but race days the strikethrough comes off.if you do get stopped, they may ask whether you use the car in competition events, if no then they can tell you to remove them, but if yes then you produce your racing license to prove that it is a competition car and you can then drive off.

No you will be given a fine and possibly two points on top.
The reason being if you had an accident where you're unconsious or dead, the police see that you have race numbers with no strike through, and they'll instantly assume that you are competing in a race so they would then have to phone around all race tracks and motorsport governing bodies to see whether you're entering a race which wastes alot time of resources if you are not an entrant. So it's no joke my friend. If you don't race or have any form of track driving, don't have any numbers.

Yes you can have them on a road mini but they must be striked through.

Hey.

Im looking at putting a number on my minis door too, and i was confused about the law.

However my brother is a bobby and he has looked it up, and apparently the law is not enforced anymore so you are allowed the numbers on the side without the strike-through, i do believe.

Hope that helps

I saw a Bini the other day with numbers on the side (copy cat bar stewards) it didn't look like a race car and I'm sure I've seen any number of minis with them, so surely it can't be a problem? Best bet probably to ask the DVLA or summats?

I'm telling you, the same as everyone else. if you have a fatal accident with a car that has numbers on the side this will waste time, money and police resources trying to find out whether you're taking part in either of the events below;

Trackdays,
Roadsport championships,
Rallys,
Hillclimbs,
Sprints,
Historic car rallies,
modern car rallies,
And any other form of car events that require a number. And considering there are loads of events in the above that take place everywhere in the u.k. this is no small task. Trust me, this is an old rule that still exists and having two traffic police in the family confirming this including the FIA you won't be able to bullsh#t your way out unless you have a strikethrough. This even applies to rally cars when they are going from stage to stage via public road. Hence why i don't understand normal road cars having numbers!?

Rant over.
