got an electric window kit from wood and picket about a month ago. paid £150 +VAT for it

came to fit it today - what a pile of s***!!!! all the bolts were about 5-10mm too short and so i had to find new ones and the wiring harness -OMG!!! the snappy connectors had already been put on - measuring about 30x15mm - instructins say to drill a 14mm hole in door and pillar - no way will these connectors fit though, and if you undo them, they break and then are useless! and the the connectors for the motors on the wiring harness are bullet connectors and the connectors on the motors are spade?? what the hell!!??

phoned them up - "we fit hundreds of these every year and we have never had a problem" well i have!! "i will get our technical support to call you back" they never did!!!

for something i paid around £200 for - you would have expected it to be a good quality product - this definatly is not!!

any ideas what i should do? i thought bout cutting the wiring harness in half, feeding the wire in from the door end, and then joining back togeher with connectors behind the dash ??????

has anyone else had any experiences with this kit??

Soz for the rant - but really has pi**ed me off!!

Thanks

JoeB

send it back get a refund and then buy one from somewhere else.

dont try and fit it with your own workarounds as you defo will get no money back then.

i dont want to sound rude or anything but if you are going to use it anyway then don't complain in the first place.

either be arsed to take it out and get a refund or put up and shut up. either it is so bad that it is worth the extra hassle of taking it out and getting a refund or the kit is nt that bad and you should live with it and shouldnt complain.

sporry to have a go but there are so many people that complain and whunge BUT do nothing else about problems, it really grips my sh!t

the main point in the post was to see if anyone else had had any problems, and if so how they got around them

Simon fitted a W&P window kit to Toad and we've had no problems what-so-ever with it.....

But he does happen to have a degree in Electronic engineering and works as an electrician, so I guess that probably helped! He would have thought nothing of replacing bits of wiring if they weren't up to scratch, or finding new screws if theirs didn't fit.

I'll get Sy to have a look at this thread and see if he can give you any tips, or advice for fitting the leccy window kit....

Yep, i've fitted these, as Amy mentions above, and the central locking kit as well. The Wood and Pickett stuff is nothing short of abysmal.

As you mentioned, some of the bolts are too short, and have to be replaced with longer ones. The instructions aren't much help either.

I didn't use the W&P loom though, as i was doing a custom wiring loom for the car, so i only used the motors, so i can't help much with that. If you think that kit is bad, make sure you don't buy their central locking kit ,as it is far worse....

I’ve found a copy of an old miniworld tec article on how to fit electric window and central locking, and seeing as you can pick up universal kits for both fairly cheaply I should be able to kit mine out with the same luxuries for about £60 to 70 all in for both systems full fitted.

1984mini25 would you mind scanning in the guide or taking some pics of it? It would be a great help, as im thinking of doing these at some point.

Yeah, i thought that as well. The central locking kit is straight forward enough, and you can easily make that up yourself.

The window kit is not as easy, and is worth the money in my opinion. I spent a whole day modifying a set out of a fiat or something, and fitted them to a spare doors to test. Every time i tried it, the thing destroyed itself, no matter what i tried. The 2 main problems are:

1 - The mini window shape is different to most car windows, in that the glass goes all the way to the corner at the front. This means that there is no front edge that stays in the runner, just a tiny little corner. On most cars therefore, it is possible to push a window up and down using one fixing point for the motor, and it can be mounted anywhere near the centre and the window will go up and down really easily. With the Mini, the window has to be rigidly fixed in place in 2 seperate places, that are both controlled by the motor, and they can't have any flex in them at all. This is what causes most of the hassle. The window will not stay horizontal in the runners, it constantly spins and jams in place.

2 - Because of the thickness of a Mini door, there is very little room to fit the motors. The kit is designed specifically for the Mini, and fits (Just..!!!!) very tightly in the bottom of the door. The window comes down and actually stops resting on it. I have never seen another motor kit that would fit in the bottom of the door and have a mechanism that doesn't obstruct the glass...

Good luck with that one, i gave up after a very frustrating day and bought the kit....

no offence like but i dont see the point, i can wind a mini window up and down alot quicker that an electric window goes up and down, and its hardly straining!

Well, i hate manual winders, as i bash my knee on the handle all day long. They are in the worst place for tall people...

I agree there isnt much point in having them but as with most things on a mini its more for show. For example why do alot of mini owneres buy loads of chrome parts for their minis or things that arent needed but make it look nicer. I think its mainly a show thing, but as syholl said its also a help if your tall, (this wouldnt apply to me as im a short ass though  )
