spi fuel pump problems

On Sunday the car cuts out while being driven,AA come out and find there is no live feed to the fuel pump.
We have checked fuses in fuse box in the engine bay(ok), in the haynes manual it says about an in line fuse on the fuel pump wiring section ,anyone know where this is?
Fuel pump works when fed a live wire from the number plate light so can be driven but only with the lights on.
The car is a 1996 spi sprite,it did have a slight problem starting a couple of weeks ago due to the fuel pump not working but sorted itself out before cutting out this time completely.
Any help please ?

The inline fuses are usellly behind the air filter

Have you tried resetting the inertia cut out switch on the bulkhead on the right hand side??

Push the top down, its black with a square round body.

Failing that its the imobiliser if you have one fitted or a fuse. The location of the inline fuse should be up under the scuttle panel by the inertia switch.

I'll go check the workshop manual just to be sure.

Oh i just thought of another possible. The relay pack may be at fault. Two of the three wiring looms ive had off various years of cars show overheating/ burning/ melting of the connector for the fuel pump. One relay pack had also burnt the track on the internal pcb away.

I'll be back in a bit to cofirm where the fuse is

EDIT** you will have the multi blade fuse box and no inline fuses whatsoever. I'll find the number of fuse for the fuel pump

Ok thanks for the help.
We tried the inertia switch, the imobiliser seems to be working fine and bought another relay module off a member breaking a spi,none of which seem to make a difference.
My sprite is a pre October 1996 model which the haynes manual says has in line fuses????
The fuel pump fuse in the main box is fine.

Ok for refferenece the fuel pump fuse on the 24 way blade fuse box is number 11, that is the second from the left in the middle row of the verticaly positioned fuses, it is 10 amps.

if everything is fine regarding the fuse, the pump, the inertia switch, the relay pack, are we sure its a fuel pump problem.

when the ignition is switched on, the ECU enables the pump to prime the fuel system. This is only a few seconds, and then the ECU switches it off again. The fuel pump will not start again untill the ECU senses engine rotation from the crank sensor The ECU will then initiate the fuel pump, the spark and the injector.

When turning the engine over is there voltage at the pump. if there isnt, you need to take it back to the next componenet, the inertia switchcheck for voltage there, iff its not there then you need to take it back to the fuse, if its not there, take it back to the relay pack, if its not there then its eitherthe relay pack or ther may be a faulty crank sensor.

Let me know what you find from that, and well take it from there.

If my 95 sprite has the 24 way main fuse box, so does yours, there are no other fuses other than in the fuse box :D

She is now working again :goaway:
It was a broken wire between the inertia switch and the fuel pump.

I had a similar experience on the way back from aston hall last year. Turned out to be the connection to the inline fuse. Glad you sorted it and it was nothing major.
