Thanks for the info bout the v-tec engine. Diahatsu spares are extremely expensive here

Well now back to the topic at hand....i suggest going for the V-tec engine as these are more powerfull.Plus it'll be easier as there are already engine subframes for this.You will have to make one from scratch if you want to put the Rocam engine in.
Or you can go the way many here in SA have gone....Golf 1.3 or 1.6 motor.The engine is much easier to maintain as the parts are very cheap.Once again you will have to build your own subframe.
What ever your decision i'm sure you'll make the right one.When your done let me know , would love to check it out.

You could also build your own but you gonna pay a truckfull.I know it sucks to live so far from the MINI Mother land.

vtec is your best bet but you looking at bout R20000 for the conversion...

and the rocam engine is bullet proof, not horrid at all, got one in my lil bantam!!!basically an Ford 8 valve fuel injected engine - no fancy stuff

if you do it all your self, probably a lot cheaper, with good power!!!
