not a good day today, first the minis manifold gasket blows then i take Dolly's quarter light windows out and the frame crumbles to dust

Posted Image

shows the bit missing,i wanted to finish the doors tomorrow so i thought i would have a go at making a new frame

first bend a bit of steel into a U shape

Posted Image

then trim it off to the right size and offer it up to the old bit

Posted Image

bit of welding cutting and bending and it looked like this

Posted Image

and with a bit of paint like this

Posted Image

hopefully it will fit tomorrow

the other door is now finished and fitted

doesn't fit the hole quite as well as the other side (maybe i should of replace this wheel arch as well) but it's not too far off

who ever says fitting out door's is difficult is a girl

not having much luck with the MOT

first time fail on top ball joint, small bit of welding on the back inner arches and the hand brake cables needed tightening

second MOT yesterday all that lot passed but a wheel cylinder started leaking on the back

did that last night so hopefully another MOT sometime this week (3rd time lucky)

volkszone is the TMF for VW's

Justkampers is good for parts, how to video's and there's a small forum

apart from that find your local club and join them

as for advice, theres a lot of rusty ones out there and a lot are very bodged, friends bought one for 5k i offered to look for them but they said no. A month later it failed the MOT and needed 4k worth of welding

problem with towing from the front is the beam is a long way back and most A frames or towing Dollys don't fit
