Do either of you know where the front and rear screens for the GTM were pinched from?

Hi,

The front screen is custom, although there is another kit car now that uses it too. (Aeon GT3)

The rear screen is a molded piece of perspex.

This is for the Coupe. If you are after what is fitted to any of the Rossa models or the Libra, then I'd ask at gtmdrivers.com because I always get those wrong! :techsupport:

A custom screen is interesting, is it laminated? I have a Midas, so have a paranoia in the back of my head about what happens when all the Fiat 126 screens have gone. I was also contemplating a little restyling involving the side windows.

They are easy enough to get hold of, from Alan Britton, who is a member of the owners club. They are laminated.

I would have thought that the screen on a Coupe would be too curved for a Midas, which I thought was fairly flat.

Maybe something like was fitted to the Rossa or Libra would be a better place to start and cheaper too!

Here is the link for all the windscreens used on the GTMs

Hope it helps

Cheers,

Wasn't suggesting I could use a GTM screen, just interested if there's anyone who can make nice curvy bespoke auto glass.

Don't quote me on this, but I think once a screen manufacturer has got the molds for a screen, then you can pay to get a batch of them made. So, if a group of you all chipped in, then you could have a proper screen, even after the original ones aren't supplied anymore. I know that some of the low production cars owners clubs do this to make sure that they are available to there members.

It is another option for you.

I don't think you need to order a big number either.

You can always request for the screen to have tint or even heated.

is it a case of using the mini logbook or should they come with their own? hjust htinking as there seems to be a few race ones out there...

any more info on how it all works i.e could i use mini coilovers ? are many of the parts specialist? or are they all off a mini donor?

thanks lee

They are getting rare. You would need to find one with it's own log book, as they are very difficult to get through the SVA test. Alot of the car is mini, as the front and rear subframes on the Coupe are both front mini subframes, obviously the engine is A series, although alot of the cars have now been changed. There are a few Coupe specific parts, but they can be purchased from one of the owners club members, whose company makes the bits.

Coilovers are possible, but suffer from the same problems as minis do.

What is the kit that you want to fit to one?

there is a guy who posted on here who has done a similar thing with an R1 engine but i've already got one of these kits in my mini and would be awesome to swap into a little rwd car like this!

The space between the engine and the bulkhead on the Coupe is fairly small. I would say that if you were going to fit an engine like that into the back of a Coupe, then you would need to do some bulkhead modifications.

If you managed it though, I would imagine that it would be one hell of a car. The Coupe's handling makes a mini feel like a 2CV

This is what I mean by it is tight in the Coupe. This is from when I was rebuilding the rear bulkhead. I'm going to use a smaller Japanese alternator (deLucas my car!)

The problems with the engine bay on a Coupe are alot different to the mini. Loads of room at the back and non at the front. I would have thought that the engine would fit if you can tilt it backwards.
