I'm sure that most of you are familiar with the look of the works coopers, red body, white roof and no bonnet stripes...
well take a look at this...
This is a photo taken of the same car on the 1963 Tour de France, featuring the type of bonnet stripes that we are all used to seeing on the rover coopers. I know that most people realise that the cars used in the saloon races had the stripes (Cooper Car Co and Britax Coopers) but how many people have seen them on the rally cars?
looking at 407 ARX with it's single stripe, it would seem they were using them as a quick way to distinguish between the cars. I believe the stripes also ran down the boot lids.
OK next, now these are some of my all time favorite Mini photos, taken a few minutes apart, they show the 1966 Monte Carlo cars being prepared at the Abingdon workshop.
Aaltonen's car (242) is on the ramp, the one with it's rear in the air is Baxter's car (87) and the one at the front is Hopkirk's (230).
just look at all the spare parts lying around. Got to be worth a fair few pounds at today's prices...
someone grab that roof rack on the selves at the back for me
