well after this you will probably realise how i got my user name, while most of you are wondering how your going to fit the biggest wheels and exhaust possible on your cars, this is the kind of thing that i like to ponder over...

I'm sure that most of you are familiar with the look of the works coopers, red body, white roof and no bonnet stripes...

well take a look at this...

This is a photo taken of the same car on the 1963 Tour de France, featuring the type of bonnet stripes that we are all used to seeing on the rover coopers. I know that most people realise that the cars used in the saloon races had the stripes (Cooper Car Co and Britax Coopers) but how many people have seen them on the rally cars?
looking at 407 ARX with it's single stripe, it would seem they were using them as a quick way to distinguish between the cars. I believe the stripes also ran down the boot lids.

OK next, now these are some of my all time favorite Mini photos, taken a few minutes apart, they show the 1966 Monte Carlo cars being prepared at the Abingdon workshop.

Aaltonen's car (242) is on the ramp, the one with it's rear in the air is Baxter's car (87) and the one at the front is Hopkirk's (230).

just look at all the spare parts lying around. Got to be worth a fair few pounds at today's prices...

That is rather interesting! Where did you find the pictures? How many other pictures have you got of the works mini's?

Good find by the way!

the photos are from a book called "monte-carlo the mini legend".

it's a book by the british motor industry heritage trust and is available form the Heritage centre at Gaydon, last time i went they were selling them off cheap.

it's crammed full of Photos of the works minis, also "the mini cooper" DVD is a good source for works images, available from mini spares i think.

well if your all enjoying the photos that much, here's a few more...

another workshop pic, this time it's late 1963. Check out the Lucas cables trolley and Pat Moss' car 737 ABL in the background...

Posted Image

the 1964 team return home by plane, it all looks a bit staged to me...

(get the wheels in line, get the wheels in line)

Posted Image

The 1966 team. Anyone care to name them all ???...

Posted Image

and Timo Makinen 1967, proving he can't actually fit in the car...

Posted Image

well if you don't hear from me for a while, i'm on the run from the Copyright police :(
