i think my lackof experience driving it may have been to blame! trying to pull away like the nova i race in didnt work......, the last two runs i tried a few more revs and let the clutch do the worl and it seemed to go a lot better, still not perfect though! think a LSD is going to be on order sometime this week aswell, hopefully that will helpon the starts when giving it a bit more welly!
anyone got anythought on which diff is best from z cars? standard or race?
I already have a fast road viscous type LSD fitted butits coming out & im upgrading to the full race Plate type lsd now.
Depends what your gonna do with the car??
for the road you wouldnt need the plate type but im running slicks on trackdays and losing some traction due to the increased grip.

On the diff thing, Chris keeps mentioning to me about upgrading to the plate type wahts the difference. Also I thought the standard one came of a cosworth which produce more power and certainly more torque on a much heavier car, so shouldnt this be ok??
Have you had any clutch problems with yours?
cheers

It doesnt really have a lot to do with the power and weight thing, the diff me and you have fitted at the moment is from a 2.8 xr 4x4 sierra which is a smaller unit than the cosworth diff but it looks and works the same really.
It is more than up to the job of giving more grip than a non LSD diff and on a standing start (ie drag racing at the pod!!) there isnt much difference but when you need more grip on a track when cornering as the weigh moves around the car with cornering forces (ie inside wheels go light on grip) the viscous unit will put just wheelspin the inside wheel and thus you loose slight momentum and speed around a track, whereas the plate type will be semi locked and thus keep both wheels spinning at the same speed so when you apply more power you go faster instead of sitting there in a cloud of tyre smoke.
As i said you wouldnt really notice this on road tyres as they dont provide enough grip in the first place to upset he car as they will spin the outside wheel when cornering.
I hope this explains it but this is the best way i can explain it from a non technical point of view!!
Ps i work permanant night shift during the week.
cheers

Have you had any issue's with your clutch slave cylinder? I sheared the first standard suzuki one away from the engine. The second modified one sheared the bolts holding it to the engine casing. The third one (bigger bolts) snapped the lugs of the engine casing. And the forth which is rubber mounted and pushes against a bracket has just broke the bracket, it lasted quite a while though. I only bloody use the clutch for coming down the gears, but getting a bit naffed off with it now. Just wondered if you had any issues, all the r1 engines seem to be fine!

My first car had a std busa slave cylinder with a smaller master cylinder on the pedal so it gave a more progressive clutch pedal and gave no trouble for the time i had it.
This one i have now has the modified slave cylinder on it and i have fitted a smaller master cylinder again to aid pedal movement, its so easy to drive even the wife can get it off the line now!!!
It sounds like you are overstroking the clutch a bit as they only need a few mm of movement on the slave cylinder, have you got a clutch stop fitted on the pedal?
Anyway we are getting a bit off topic from Jackos R1 mini, if you need anymore advice give me a call, will PM you my Mobile number.
Why dont you start your own thread in the projects section and get posting those pics?
Cheers

ohh just have one more question, were looking to get some slicks and 8inch wheels to do some trackdays, what size slicks are best?? the cross plys seem to have the sizes written differently and i cant understand! lol
thanks again
Mr Gough sells them cheap £25 per tyre I think hes on here somewhere. He and Chris Z cars use 8x13 and run on a fifty profile " i think".

Michelin cross plys 16/53 x13"
which means 160mm wide
530mm high
You can run these on 7" to be honest as i have mine on sevens and they are ok, they are a bit stretched on 8" rims and 8" rims are more expensive aswell
