Right... Task 1 performed.... sniping of cruise control off ebay... little more than I wanted to pay but with P&P and import duty should come over for less than 100...

When it arrives I'll let y'all know and start work on the kit..

Cruise control has landed in UK :gimme:

Unfortunately without the magnetic pickup part of the kit :D

So going to have to butcher something together... was thinking of one of the Halfords speedo thingies for bikes might do the trick, the problem is I have no idea if it's going to provide a strong enough signal or work at all... grrrrrrrrr

What about one of the rally trip meter pickups that fit into the speedo cable?

Was it an opened box?

I would question the seller!!
It should have came with one.
At least my kit did.

I did question the seller, to which I believe was an honest reply, I only took what was in the box out to photograph it, and then put it all back in...

The problem is, It'll probably cost more that it's worth to sort it all out...

Especially as Audiovox themselves don't seem to be interested in returning a mail about volume supplies to the UK...

Sorry chaps, but this may end up a dead duck unless I can get a reliable supply of the units..

However, the kit looks very good and already got ideas of how to install without inteferring with too much, just hope the bike sensor works, otherwise I'm going to have to find an injection mini to try it out on... Spit

That's surprising..
I specifically looked at the shipping info and it stated Europe and specifically UK.
Now that I'm on this side of the pond i look for those things!!!

Sorry I tried!!

Right draggin' this back up from the depths of oblivion...

I think I've finally found a supplier of the core unit, so I'm going to finish off the prototype and try and get one working...

If anyone is interested in a possible scrapyard solution....

Vauxhall omegas and vectras in higher trim like CDX special editions or SRI/GSI often have cruise control. This consists of an all-in-one motor and control unit, and a set of switches mounted on the indicator stalk. They turn up on ebay for £60 or so, but could be had from a scrappy for less than that im sure. I got my system for a fiver.
Older vauxhalls like senators and carltons have cruise too, but its a differnet system that I dont know at all.

There is a guide to fitting them to other vaux models here....
http://82.34.52.15/s...uiseControl.htm
wih loads of photos and a good wiring diagram.

To adapt this to a mini, you will need to find an alternative feed for the speed sensor. on vauxhalls, the feed comes from the abs system - it would take a little research into the frequency of this signal to find a suitable replacement. (retro-fit an abs pickup ring and sensor to the minis hub?)
Obviously the vaux indicator stalk is no use, but it would be easy to fit aslternative switches to the dashboard of a mini.

I believe ABS sensors and Hall sensors (common speed sensor) produce different type of waves so that wouldn't be an option. No reason why you coudln't use a trigger wheel on the crank damper and an ABS sensor there, just like the Megajolt lads use.

fitting the sensor to the engine is probably going to confuse the cahoonies out of the unit, bit different the frequency of signal, say from a wheel going round at 1000rpm (60 mph ish for a mini) to 3-4000 rpm engine speed...

But yes I've looked at alternative units and the refit cost in terms of both electronics, bracketry, wiring and switches etc etc is not justified against taking a universal fit system and adapting to suit..

Ah yes! One of my classic tired Saturday morning posts! Of course the unit wants to know the road speed, not engine speed! :withstupid:
