right, i've got a problem with my heaters producing steam and forming condensation on all the windows. As soon as i put the heaters on the whole car steams up and i can actually see steam coming out of the vents under the windscreen. Now the car has been sat a while while i've been doing some restoration work and it at first makes me think that moisture that has built up in the pipes is just evaporating off. But when i think about it i'm thinking it could possible be a water leak in the heater thats evaporating as it leaks. Is it likely to be a damaged heater radiator or just a leak in the pipework near the heater?
any help would be great, many thanks in advance

Sounds like the heater matrix to me, I often replace heater matrix's this time of year. I think fresh or too much antifreeze causes the bonded seal to perish. A quick temporary fix is to place a copper pipe between the two hoses. If you can brave the cold.

Yes i think i might be actually. not much but enough to notice. So will it just be a hose leakage or is it likely to be terminal for the little radiator in the heater?

i've had a look today and the plastic outlet seems to have come away from the aluminium radiator. so i'll be needing a new one by the looks of it. Is the right one for my 1990 studio 2?- HEATER

I would have just compared it to my old one normally but the old one is on the car floor and its cold outside so i thought i'd ask you gentlemen instead:angel:

Same thing happened to me with a replacement heater after I did the Vauxhall conversion. There was a bit of steam coming out and like you I thought it could have been condensation in the heater pipework. The morning of the MOT the heater matrix sprung a leak ;)

I replaced the matrix and its been fine ever since. Not a hard job and like Koss says you can bypass the heater by putting a link pipe between the two water pipes.
